Peter Berg's Battleship Recruits Chart-Topping Singer Rihanna

For better or worse, a fair share of chart topping singers have turned to Hollywood to broaden their horizons by adding "actress" to their resume. Madonna, Cher, Alica Keys and Mariah Carey are just a few singers who have dabbled in the film industry, and now Variety reports that Rihanna will join the ranks as she'll make her feature film debut in Peter Perg's adaptation of the board game Battleship. There weren't any specifics mentioned regarding her character, but she'll join Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch in a story taking place across the seas, the skies and over land in a battle for planetary survival against a superior alien force.
As we already know, Kitsch will play a Naval officer who leads the fight and Skarsgard will play his brother in the film. It'd be interesting to see if Rihanna will be in the middle of the action as another member of the Navy or if she'll simply be a civilian or love interest for one of the male characters (I'm guessing the latter). Surely she'll bring a decent amount of sexy to this, but it'd be nice if she had a reasonable amount of acting talent as well. This is an adaptation that will have to work more than a little bit to build my anticipation and excitement, and Rihanna's addition doesn't really change my opinion either way. But what do you think?

I'm with Xerxex, I think she'll be fine. peter BErg is sort of a cool filmmaker... even though he looks like a spoiled brat.

Wow Diehard, just wow...I'm not going to start an argument with you because that's what you're looking for. I'm looking forward to this flick, you just need to think of it as a Navy film with aliens, and not a board game movie.

Oh Hell no.............I love the idea of this film, but is she another pretty face, or will there be any sense of timeing? A good edit could save a bad performance. ( sometimes)

Yeap Diehard that's a bit sad. The only good nazi is a dead nazi. For most pop stars these days acting is something they do every day of their lives. Some better than others. For Rihanna acting might be better for her as the music she makes is drivel.

She just flat out sucks at everything. She's not a good singer by any means. I hope they kill her off in this movie quickly so I won't have to see her so much.

Speaking of the Queen.. I heard she's now DIRECTING a film. From London's Evening standard: "Madonna is reportedly planning to move back to Britain. The singer - who relocated from London to New York following her divorce from film director Guy Ritchie in 2008 - is currently in London directing her new movie 'W.E.', about late British monarch King Edward VIII's decision to abdicate the throne for his American divorcee lover Wallis Simpson." Shall she put out what she learned from Guy Ritchie or what?? By the way, Rihanna's news suck.
