Peter Sarsgaard Cast as Hector Hammond in Green Lantern!

Whoa! Looks like those rumors about Jackie Earle Haley playing the villain Sinestro in DC Comics' Green Lantern movie were inaccurate (or maybe there will be multiple villains in this?). In any case, Heat Vision just announced that Peter Sarsgaard is "in negotiations" to play the villain Dr. Hector Hammond, the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father's eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor. It sounds like they're using the same storyline that's in Geoff Johns' Green Lantern: Secret Origin. And casting Sarsgaard for the role of Hammond is absolutely perfect!
Green Lantern is currently in pre-production aiming for a March start down in Louisiana. We know that Ryan Reynolds will play Hal Jordan, who becomes Green Lantern, and will be joined by Blake Lively who will play his love interest Carol Ferris. If they are indeed following the Green Lantern: Secret Origin story, that means Sinestro is in the movie, but not as the main villain (that's Hammond). As for Peter Sarsgaard, he's a great character actor who has appeared in movies like K-19, The Salton Sea, Jarhead, Orphan, and An Education, and will be a perfect fit. I'm glad to see Martin Campbell putting together a strong cast for this!

Hector Hammond was in the script so this is no surprise. And if the script I have holds up then - **SPOILER** - Sinestro WON'T be a villain.

why i sometimes don't like firstshowing: sinestro is intially a member of the green lantern corps, and starting him out as a villain would make no sense whatsoever. he's gonna be in this movie, and it could still be jackie earle haley, but he won't be the villain. Anyway, I'm excited for this film!

Peter Sarsgaard is the perfect guy to play Hammond, I see no reason what-so-ever to doubt this film now, Reynolds will be great and Sarsgaard will be the perfect villian.

Sinestro is not the villain in this film. He doesn't become a villain until much later. Anyway, great casting.

I was already excited about GL, love Ryan Reynolds and Martin Campbell should be perfect for this! But to add Peter Sarsgaard? EPIC WIN!

be good to sinestro set up as a green lantern and hal's mentor but with some sub plot that sets him up to be the villian in the next film. cant go wrong with sarsgaard.

NICE! I'm excited.....it's looking good now my question is.....Now does this mean then can actually do some type of cameo with Gorilla Grodd and perhaps Gorilla City since the meteor is the same that lands in Africa, super-evolving Grodd and the other gorillas?

Peter Sarsgaard--like his dad (right?) Stellen-- adds to any movie he's in. Check out Rendition, Flight Plan, Electric Mist, etc. Glad he's in the GL movie

zubzwank, Stellen Skarsgard is not related to him. Stellen is Alexander Skarsgard father they guy from Generation Kill and True Blood.
