Survival of the Dead Trailer

Attention zombie movie fans! This here is the first official red band trailer, courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting, for George A. Romero's latest zombie movie Survival of the Dead. Now, I've already seen this because it showed at Fantastic Fest last year (read my review) and I liked it quite a bit, but didn't love it. It's another one of Romero's super low budget indie zombie flicks with a weird story that kinda is all about government conspiracy but not really. And it does take place entirely on an island, but don't worry, there are plenty of zombies! It will be hitting VOD in April before it hits theaters in May as well, so look out for it then. Enjoy!

Watch the red band trailer for George Romero's Survival of the Dead:

On an island off the coast of Delaware, local residents caught in a family feud must simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while trying to find a cure to bring their un-dead relatives back to their human state.

Survival of the Dead is both written and directed by the legendary George A. Romero, of all things zombies and horror, from Night of the Living Dead to The Crazies to Dawn of the Dead to Creepshow to Day of the Dead to Monkey Shines to Land of the Dead. This is technically set in the same universe as Romero's Diary of the Dead from 2007 and is a spin-off/sequel of that movie. This first premiered at Fantastic Fest last year with a Romero introduction. Magnet Releasing is bringing Survival of the Dead to theaters this May 28th.

People's Champ on Mar 4, 2010

meh might check it out.

Xerxex on Mar 4, 2010

Romero is no longer the leader in zombie movies but ill check it out anyways because I love zombie flicks.

johnny Crow on Mar 4, 2010

romero is long past his zombie movie prime. this isn't the first trailer of this movie i've seen...........and from what i've seen - it's a pass.

beavis on Mar 4, 2010

This looks awesome. Classic style annd easy story with good humour and hopefully some wicked gory kills. Anyone else reminded of the late Burgess Merideth by the old dude?

Big Red Moose on Mar 4, 2010

Wow. That looks really really poor. It breaks my heart to say it but Romero needs to give up. Land and Diary of the Dead were terrible and this looks just as bad.

sonnychiba1 on Mar 4, 2010

Land of the Dead was excellent. Everything since hasn't been all that good.

Mr Drebin's Extended Wallet on Mar 4, 2010

Umm, that was a red band trailer why?

JMoney on Mar 4, 2010

I think it's time for Romero to move on to other things besides zombie films. I know he can do more, he just has to show it. No more Romero, I know he probably wants to give it up as well. Time to pass the torch.

The_Kid on Mar 4, 2010

in the uk this has went straight to dvd no cinema release(15th march). I think romero will have to call it a day, times have changed which is hard for me to say been a romeroholic

thepeoplesmovies on Mar 4, 2010

Looks kind of dumb. I'm a huge zombie fan but I hate most zombie movies.

Collin on Mar 4, 2010

Wowww... another zombie movie. the comedic zombie movies (Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead) have been good, but the serious ones are nearly impossible to sit through...this looks to be no exception.

Antioch on Mar 4, 2010

^^^^^ DUUUH, it is a zombie comedy/western, Long live Romero, he is still the king, although, diary was quite lacking, I have high hopes for this.

Nyarl on Mar 4, 2010

its a no go

DaftPUNKFAN on Mar 4, 2010

Diary of the dead was just..o god just miserable. At the same time it was fun and had some good zombie killing which is all I look for in Romero flicks nowadays. Plus who is he gonna pass the torch too? This looks like a bit of a comedy and its not taking itself as seriously so Ill give it a shot.

Cody on Mar 4, 2010

if this wasn't a precious romero film you'd all realize how awful it looks

Sarah Chino on Mar 4, 2010

#3 & #4 You fucking numb nuts don't know shit!!!!!!!!!! Romero is and will always be the leader in zombie films because guess what... HE OWNS THE FUCKING GENRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HUGO on Mar 4, 2010

was that a zombie riding a horse?

iPhone Mafia Wars: 9003390587 on Mar 4, 2010

iPhone Mafia Wars, Might have just been a blind girl, but... equally as ridiculous. Much as it pains me to say it, this does look like it will blow. I liked Land of the Dead, but I would never argue that it was a great movie. He seems to have lost his touch since Day of the Dead, which I thought was fantastic and creepy and was very atmospheric as far as the macabre, decrepitness goes. And the special effects were amazing for practical effects. I sas some things in that movie that they are still trying to perfect these days with CG, which under scrutiny always gives itself away as fake, and more often than not is obviously fake. Diary of the Dead was a disappointment, because much like DotD, it had the potential to be a lot bigger, and I blame that more on budget constraints than directorial talent. I don't think Romero will stop making zombie movies, because it's something he loves to do and it tickles his funny bone plain and simple. But I think we can all agree that the best we can hope for is mediocre. In the meantime, I'll keep looking forward to innovative new tiltles in the vein of 28 days later... and the anticipation that WWZ will come to fruition in a big way.

JL on Mar 4, 2010

28 Days Later Innovative? Oh dear...

Big Saucepan on Mar 4, 2010

i love zombies... but... i ... i dont think i can sit through this. for god sakes did you see the make up on the zombie at :30. the one he kills with a hot dog on a stick

DoomCanoe on Mar 4, 2010

Mr. Romero isn't a great film maker, but zombie movies are the kind you can get through even when theyre impossibly bad. With the possible exception of Return of the Living Dead 2, were I can only watch it on mute to shut that bitch up πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Mark D on Mar 4, 2010

This is EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. This isn't 28 days later, or new Dawn of the Dead. This is classic Romero.

Taylor on Mar 4, 2010

God its like standing there watching a dying animal πŸ™ This looks like a really bad attempt at that original Dawn of the Dead glory... but I'm sorry, I LOVE! Romero, I LOVE! zombies, but if theres no Savini, (or Nicotero) its just not that great.. :/ anybody else notice that decline after LOTD?

Toucmyinfection on Mar 4, 2010

It looks kind of old school to me; little bit like Dawn. In other words don't judge a book by its cover. He is the master. If we're honest are any of the Dead movies 100% awesome? OK fine Dawn is but as a whole aren't they supposed to suck you in to that universe and make you think about where you would hide and how you would survive. Do you know how many zombie dreams I had when I was 14? This trailer makes me want to find out what he has up his sleeve. Diary was better than Land so I'm looking forward to this. And if you really are a zombie fan you know you have to see this.

wish01 on Mar 4, 2010

#24 - Nicotero is working on this movie #19 - 28 Days Later is NOT a zombie movie. I'll will argue that until the day I die. I like the movie, sure, but it is not a zombie movie. #3 - If George Romero isn't the leader of the zombie movies, who is? Yes, I am a Romero fanboy(girl) and will watch anything he does. Of course I'm not blinded by my fanboy-ism to see that he has been lacking lately. But I still find his movies to be entertaining and no one can do the zombie movie like he can. I will watch this movie as soon as I possibly can.

xCloudbox on Mar 4, 2010

Well, it looks a hell lot better than John Russo's Children of the Living Dead. Which, by the way #24, while I do love Tom Savini (come on he was Sex Machine!) he couldn't saved that movie if his life depended on it.

Baron the Curse on Mar 4, 2010

Enough with the Zombies already

Crapola on Mar 4, 2010

Romero is really not that good, i mean... really come on.

bubba b on Mar 5, 2010

#28 big ditto. How about some new space movies.

gplongwood on Mar 5, 2010

Looks more funny to me than a scary zombie flick. Fast that's frickin' scary.

arjones on Mar 5, 2010

I have and always been a Romero fan it's not just his zombie films, but his whole spectrum of different movies. Anyone who knows anything of his movies knows that. George A. Romero made, invented the zombie ghoul for hollywood. his films have inspired nightmares and imaginations for damn near forty years! I will always support his films just as i have for most my life, he has come a long way in the genre. He DOES STILL OWN THE ZOMBIE GENRE and always will be at the top. It's classic Romero all over again!

jeremy on Mar 5, 2010

seriously #3 , who's the leader if not Romero? #31, please...just..shut up.

Colt on Mar 6, 2010

#30, You mean like space zombies? #32 jeremy, He didn't invent the zombie film genre, he just invented the flesh-eating rotting corpse zombie film genre. #26 xCloudbox, I've debated 28 days later from that perspective before, but the fact is that there are numerous definitions for the word zombie. Although the film was about mankind destroying itself with its never ceasing scientific experimentation, especially in making things that are meant only for death and destruction, the hordes of the infected only had one major thing that separated them from the walking dead, and that was that their hearts were still pumping, so they were living humans not supernatural zombies who you had to shoot in the brain to stop. I might wind up watching 'Survival..' too, but if it turns out to be like the last two, I will have to accept that the best of Romero has come and gone.

JL on Mar 8, 2010

This looks horrible, im sorry but Romero can't direct zombie movies anymore i mean Land of the Dead was awful

matthew on Mar 8, 2010

Zombie ridding a horase!! WTF!! jajaja That georgie boy....

Sakyo on Mar 10, 2010
