Ridley Scott's Monopoly Movie Hoping to Be Ready by 2012?
I wish we could report that this unnecessary board game adaptation was dead, but unfortunately it's not. It's alive and well and it sounds like it's one of Ridley Scott's next projects once he gets Robin Hood and the Alien prequel out of the way. MTV recently talked with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner about all kinds of things, but only published quotes on the Monopoly movie so far. Goldner really only confirms that it's still aiming to be ready by 2012. "Ridley is still on-board and wants to be part of this and we're very excited about this, probably for 2012… 13… somewhere in the future," Goldner said. Even I don't want to see this movie at all.
"The great part about Monopoly is the history, literally the history of the creation of the brand and the fact that the brand is 75 years old so you have this great opportunity for the real history as well as the fictional history to tell stories of families and characters," Goldner explained. He's just speaking highly about his own products, so don't let him persuade you that this could be good. Interestingly, he also says that the draft of the script written by Pamela Pettler is "great," but may not be "all there yet." Back in November, we wrote an article on what the Monopoly movie's story would actually be about and it sounds pretty bad. Hopefully they get some good writers in to at least make this entertaining once it hits theaters in 2012 (or in 2013).

This has to be one of the dumbest ideas for a movie I've ever heard of. And it sucks that one of my favorite directors is attached to this. He must see something in it or have an idea\concept in mind that we just don't see possible for this flick.

Ridley, if you wanted to get out of movies why didn't you just retire?

Supposedly there IS a "Battleship" Movie in the works...as well as a few other "Game" related movies. You can see these on IMDB.

WTH is that? I just read the plot also. My gosh people, please use your imagination instead of adopting a board game like this!!! What next they going to adapt, Free Cell? Solitaire? Trouble? Risk?

we pay for it so we pay for it understand today you have to go stupid

I doubt Ridley Scott would be considering it were it not interesting to him. And yes, there is a Battleship movie being floated around (see... puns are fun...) but the last I heard they had gotten something like ten rewrites and still not gotten anywhere. @Loser: The words are english, but I'll be damned if that made any sense at all. Please rephrase the statement in an intelligible manner. I wrote a treatment for "Tetris: The Movie". I am not kidding.

You're all useless. Till the script is actually written I don't know why you're all getting so upset. Treatments don't mean squat. Wait for the script folks, then judge.

This movie is gonna need multiple endings like the greatest board game adaptation of all time, CLUE. Multiple endings, that's where the big money is.

Monopoly movie? REALLY! Ridley Scott? This movie will be awful! How could anyone think this is a good idea...the only way Ridley could pull this one off is to cast Russell Crowe as the car...because everyone wants to be the car...if Crowe were the car I'd see it....just sayin'

Sarah Jessica Parker can definitely play the horse.
