Hulk / Mark Ruffalo

We last heard from actor Mark Ruffalo this July about why he was interested in playing Hulk in Marvel's forthcoming The Avengers movie (replacing Edward Norton) being directed by Joss Whedon. Yesterday Vulture met up with Ruffalo at a shindig in New York City and asked him about the role again. This time he revealed: "No one's ever played the Hulk exactly, they've always done CGI," So for this one they're going to be using mo-cap with Ruffalo in addition to having him actually play Bruce Banner. That should be pretty cool to see, plus Avatar-style mo-cap is the big trend nowadays. I think the result will be pretty awesome.

"I'm really excited," Ruffalo adds. "They're going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I'll actually play the Hulk. That'll be fun." I'm glad to see he's enthusiastic about taking on this role, I just hope director Joss Whedon can deliver with kick ass Avatar quality CGI effects, because I know we all want this to feel seamless. They also asked where his inspiration is coming from: "I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one," Ruffalo added. "I'm gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He's always on the run and trying to find love. It's really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and fucks everything up." Hell yea! I'm definitely looking forward to Ruffalo kickin' some ass in 2012.

i was a little skeptic at first since this is the third person playing as Banner/Hulk in less than eight years...but as i read through and see how this one is actually enjoying this on the first try really makes me have more faith.....

Wasn't some mo-cap work done, by Ang Lee, on his 'Hulk' film? Granted his "Hulk' film sucked; but I seem to recall seeing some behind the scenes footage of Lee himself doing some mo-cap stuff.

Ruffalo i loved Bixbys take on Banner too, hell i grew up watching it. But, for fans sake, just stick to the comics.

I've always been a huge comic book movie fan but I've grown tired of the constant rebooting and recasting of super hero movies. Just says to me it's time to leave the genre alone for awhile and move on.

God I hope the CG is better than the last one! Rhythm and Hues really screwed the pooch on the last one!

I agree with #1, there have been to many actors to play the role... kinda breaks any attachment you had from the previous attempts. Still looking Forward to seeing what he can do for the role with the Mo-cap to back it up. CGI is great n all but mo-cap will add some more depth to the character. @4 I think he meant the first on the "Big Screen".

#8 - You are correct. Ang Lee played the Hulk in his movie via mo-cap.

The way the hulk in Ang Lee's film was awesome. It was just the way he looked and how the film didnt really go anywhere. I don't think there's anyway you can make a 9 ft tall green man look real. Even the last film. But my problem with Ang Lee's film was Dr. Banner. He is a very tormented man and i didnt get that from Eric Bana. Edward Northon wasn't bad. He just was a little TOO weak as a person in the film. I like Mark Ruffalo as Banner. The more and more i think about it, it seems pretty cool. He has the look and he can play an almost mad scientist. So, i guess we'll see...

This is going to be interesting! At first I was skeptical when I found out Ruffalo was going to be playing the Hulk, but now I'm getting hard-core curious. I hope they bring back Liv Tyler - she was great!

I still maintain they should use Ferigno as the Hulk and then CGI in Bruce Banner.

I'm honestly not a fan of Mark Ruffalo. He's a very forgettable actor. I thought Eric Bana was horrible too. I think Ed Norton did a great job and the CGI Hulk was incredible. Not sure Mo-cap is the way to go with the Hulk. But that's just me.
