Wow, definitely didn't see this coming. E! News recently talked with hip hop musician, actor and soon-to-be filmmaker RZA on the red carpet recently and learned that Russell Crowe is appearing in his upcoming directorial debut The Man With the Iron Fist. If you don't know, the project is RZA's old school kung-fu martial arts flick kind of like that Wu-Tang vs The Golden Phoenix flick that we ran some trailers for a while ago. "I won't spoil it for you, but Russell's gonna be the baddest man alive," RZA told E! News. "That man is in fighting shape. That man will knock you out." An odd fit, but I love seeing Crowe fightin', so bring it on.
It was announced in May that The Man With the Iron Fist had been greenlit by Universal with a $20 million budget with shooting starting in December in Shanghai. RZA will direct the film and play the title character, a blacksmith who forges weapons for the inhabitants of a village in feudal China. The script mixes "kung fu with a spaghetti western mindset and a hip hop influence." I'm sure they will cast more martial arts experts, but I'm pretty excited to see Crowe in this, too. It kind of reminds me of Robert Rodriguez casting Robert De Niro in Machete, and that turned out okay, right? We'll definitely keep you updated, as I've said before and will admit again that The Man With the Iron Fist is one of my most anticipated films, with or without Crowe.

Unexpected but I totally love it! It shows Russell Crowe is willing to venture into new things instead of sticking to his comfort zone. Awesome!
