Sam Worthington Confirmed for Murder Mystery 'The Fields'

Sam Worthington

Last November, we heard a rumor regarding the casting of Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington in The Texas Killing Fields, a film being directed by Ami Canaan Mann (Michael Mann's daughter). Well, two out of three ain't bad as THR confirms that Ms. Mann will indeed be directing the thriller now simply titled The Fields, with Worthington playing a Texas homicide detective who joins with a New York detective to investigate unsolved murders in the Texas bayous. No word on who will play the other detective, so there's a chance that Cooper could still be in the cards, but at this point, Worthington is the only one officially cast.

Written by producer Don Ferrarone (a former DEA operations agent) the script was once considered to be one of Danny Boyle's potential projects after winning the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire. Boyle had said the script was so dark that "you'd have to have half a dozen super megastars for a studio to even consider making it." So it sounds like they've taken the first step, since Worthington seems to be the "it" actor of the moment. Though I'm not entirely thrilled with Worthington's involvement, the story sounds super creepy as it's based on a real-life series of unsolved murders in a stretch of bayous where as many as 70 bodies have turned up over the past 30 years. Sounds like we've got another Zodiac kind of mystery on our hands here.

Im sorry but I dont think hes that great of an actor and the fact he plays a Texan when he trips up with a normal American accent, turns me off of it.

The story has got me interested. Hopefully he can spend a few hours with a dialouge coach to help him perfect a Texan accent.

Clearly, someone sees some potential in Sam. I think he'll do great in that he IS a damn good actor. He's got chops of a pretty high caliber. Being that he's the 'it' guy and that he's starred in 3(counting the upcoming "Clash of the Titans") tent pole flicks, I'm sure he knows to bring his A-game for this. He will keep his streak alive. I have faith, YES. 🙂

Cody you said it.In Terminator and Avatar you can here his Australian(or whatever it is)accent from time to time. He's not a great actor. He's just blahhhh.Nothing special. He's no Mel Gibson.Or Russell Crow for that matter.

I think he's a great actor. Definitely prefer to watch him in an action movie, as opposed to some metro-sexual, girly-man yank. I'm all for American actors, but when it comes to tough guys, you can't go past an Australian.

He's a great actor? He's completely forgettable in every role, and not because he's able to assume the mantle of the character he's playing but because he's cardboard. Someone else described him as generic and that's spot on. Actors are interesting because of quirks, either physical ones or personality-wise. I think he's getting a lot of work at the moment only because of a lack of masculine actors his age, not because he turns in great performances.

I agree with 8,he's had ample oppurtunity to turn in a good performance and has not delivered.I dont even think he is charismatic. But I have seen him in interviews and he looks like a decent guy so good luck to him.

He's just a blue collar, get 'er done kinda guy, which doesn't translate well with the mainstream but I really appreciate it.

sam worthington did a decent job in the terminator, especially considering he didn't have anything (or anyone) to play off of. nobody care is his aussie accent breaks through. schwarzennegger's austrian one never held him back.

I grew up 10 min from where this happened. My question is why are they filming in Louisiana?
