Sam Worthington

After enjoying moderate to mind-blowing success starring in both Terminator Salvation and Avatar, Sam Worthington has yet another tentpole on the horizon with Clash of the Titans (now being released in 3-D on April 2nd). However, no one has been talking about what's next for the breakout actor of 2009. Now we don't have to wonder as Heat Vision confirms a scoop from Latino Review stating that Worthington is in negotiations to play the legendary titular vampire in Alex Proyas' Dracula Year Zero, which explores the origin of Dracula by meshing vampire mythology with the real life history of Prince Vlad the Impaler.

The film will depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war (cue Jason Segel's Dracula's Lament). But just because there's a love story angle don't think this isn't a big budget movie. Latino Review's source says the movie is budgeted at over $100 million. As someone who just hasn't been impressed by Worthington in any capacity, I have to say that this seems like a risky project, and will probably be the true test to see if audiences actually like the guy. Dracula's not a simple character despite all of his countless caricatures in pop culture. It's very difficult to do a vampire flick and not have it be campy. Of course, Alex Proyas is a great filmmaker so maybe he can get the right performance out of him.

He's a very talented actor, and a nice guy to boot (most aussies i've met are), so good for him. Expecting more big things from him.

sounds pretty good, now Worthington needs to find a good voice coach, and we'll be set!

He should take over the Batman role, maybe play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. To bad they cant get him to take over the Capt. Jack Sparrow role in Pirates 3.

He was really good in Macbeth so hopefully this movie will do him justice. Although I enjoy him in movies, most of the people I know don't find him interesting at all. He probably wont have a stellar career. *tear rolls down cheek*

I hope Alex Proyas puts in a good effort with this movie. His last couple of movies have been mediocre.

If he pulls this off, he'll earn more actor kudos then before. Still Gary Oldman is the ONLY Dracula ever! (Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee are awesome too...Jack Palance sadly wasn't)

Another fucking Dracula movie? Add that plank of wood Worthington and that wash-up Proyas and this is doomed to fail.

Agreeing with 11-- Everyone wants a shot at Dracula. I don't see the obsession for all these DECADES but it doesn't seem to have an end. And they only get worse (Blade Trinity). Christ, never thought I'd say this... but I'm fucking tired and bored with vampire movies all together.

I dunno, I thought the love story that fueled Bram Stokers Dracula was effing fantastic, if they can similarly tap into that, I'm sold. The combo of Vlad & Dracula is also key to the mythology and whereas there are SO MANY vampire movies out, I feel it's okay to go straight to the source and focus on the quintessential vampire. bring it.
