Sharlto Copley Latest to Join DJ Caruso's I Am Number Four

For some reason, at the end of last month, we missed reporting news of young British actor Alex Pettyfer joining DJ Caruso's adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science fiction book, I Am Number Four, by James Frey and Jobie Hughes. The actor will be playing playing the title role of Four, one of nine aliens who escape their home planet before its annihilation by a rival species and hide out on Earth disguised as human high schoolers, only to discover they're still being hunted by their enemy. Now Heat Vision is reporting that Sharlto Copley, who had his breakthrough last year in District 9, has also joined the cast in a pivotal role.
Copley (who also looks to be enjoying his newfound fame with some ridiculous action in this summer's The A-Team) will play a man who hailed from the alien world's serving class but now is the title character's adult guardian and mentor. The story is being adapted by Al Gough and Miles Millar ("Smallville" creators) from a planned six-book series, with the first installment being published sometime in fall. Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay are producing, so this project has some heavy hitters behind it. The concept, which is almost like a reverse of The Faculty, certainly sounds fascinating and I can't wait to hear who else joins the cast.
Will he be keeping the South African accent?? That would be cool but then again I am sure there will be plenty of people complaining that they couldn't understand him.

Dir3ct: I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he can learn other accents. Also with D.J. Caruso's involvement in this and Dead Space my thought is that Sharlto Copley would be a good choice to play Isaac Clarke. In the second game the character will be given dialog so I hope he's still likable.

Sharlto! I bet this will have the same feel as Transformers. Light entertainment.

Look i'm confident in Sharlto's ability to play just about any role, but I must say you lost me with the words high school.

Sharlto IS South African, and for those who don't know, he specialises in accents and improvisation, so pretty sure he will use whatever accent is needed in this new movie and do it pretty damn well!!
