Jonah Hex

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Hitting theaters this weekend is another new DC Comics adaptation, Jonah Hex, about the gunslinging anti-hero bounty hunter. It was directed by Horton Hears a Who! director Jimmy Hayward and stars Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Will Arnett and Michael Fassbender. Jonah Hex currently has 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, but is it really that bad? Is there anything redeeming about it or is it just a bad movie from start to finish? How was Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex or John Malkovich? Good at all? If you've seen it, leave a comment and let us know what you thought of Jonah Hex!

To fuel the fire, this movie was terrible, just plain awful. Sorry, but I just have to say it. I've been comparing it to Frank Miller's The Spirit (which was one of the worst movies ever) it's so bad. And worst of all, there really isn't anything to like about it. I tried to appreciate the visuals, the directing, the performances from a stellar cast, but all of it was terrible. It's a shame to see such talent and such a great concept go to waste. I would've rather have seen Crank directors Neveldine & Tayor's version of this that they originally pitched, that was intense and R-rated. This Jonah Hex was laughably bad and quickly forgettable, a complete mess.

What did you think of Jonah Hex? One of the worst movies this year or mildly entertaining?

thats what you get when you get a animated director to do a huge budget film

I don't plan on seeing this, as it ALWAYS looked terrible. The trailers were god-awful, and when a trailer can't even be halfway decent, the movie will be even worse. I'm glad you hated it so much, haha. It'll be a movie I never see, ever.

Hey Alex what about Fassbender's, Brolin's, and Fox's performances? I figured it would fail, I mean you can't have a Jonah Hex film and give it to someone with minimal directing experience. perhaps the film should have been given to Neveldine & Tayor, I mean at least it would have been crazy and over the top,

I wanted to want to watch this because Josh Brolin is awesome, from The Goonies, to Milk, to No Country for Old Men, but I just don't want to watch it, even if Brolin looks great Hexed up.

The Spirit was a joke film that was marketed wrong. It was supposed to be lighthearted like the comics, it was. Just the marketing team behind it tried to sell it as Sin City 2 instead of dorky 50s comic strip.

I'll see it. Probably not in the theater. If it's as good as The Spirit was. The Spirit, if going into it knowing the kind of guy Frank Miller is, is great. I mean, have you read All Star Batman and Robin? I watched the movie with a friend of mine. She and I didn't stop laughing almost the entire way through. It was over the top, amazingly ridiculous deconstruction of the Golden age of comics. We actually just saw Toy Story 3 (amazing) and were talking about clowns and monkeys and baby dolls. How they've gone from cute to creepy and finally stripped down to their archetypal skeleton. I feel like that's what Sin City was. The sort of "so bad it's good" because it's meant to be the very bones of cinema, of story. They don't even need to wink at the audience, because we're all in on it together. We know the dashing hero who gets all the girls, every stereotypical femme fatale, the campy villain: now let's pull out our kid's-imagination-all-grown-up and play.

I'm happy I saw it! My only complaint is the mediocre direction.

Saw it twice, better the second time. Won't go see TS3 at all. Don't care for talking toys.

LMFAO. Alex, you didn't see this coming!!!? From the trailers it looked like a worst version of Wild Wild West. Megan Fox needs a new agent, she keeps picking some of the worst roles in the biz. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who hated the Spirit! I got that film right up there next to Gigli, The Village, Eyes Wide Shut, The Happening, Lady in the Water, Dare Devil, Wild Wild West, etc.

This movie can't be that bad. It's not Mega Force or Krull. It's certainly not Nightfall. Those are the three worst movies of all time. Krull being the absolute worst.

Jonah Hex is a shitty comic to begin with imo. They just moved the source material to the big screen.

I read the comic book in it's first incarnation as a "Weird Western Tales" comic book. (Go look it up if you want.) It ran there on and off from 1969-1978. I got my first one when I was 4 years old in 1974. I always liked the obscure off the wall characters. (Manbat and Ragman were other favorites.) I am one of those kids who actually accumulated nearly all of those early J.Hex comics before it went defunct. I was either too old or not interested in the later versions that have come and gone in the decades following. That said I will probably go see it for old times sake.

Well It Shows That PG-13 Films Are Not Doing So Well At The Box Office This Summer. First Was The Losers, Than It Was Iron Man 2, Then It Was Robin Hood And The List Goes On And On Right Now G And PG Rated Family Films Are Doing Well. And Big Budget PG-13 Are Not.

I'm Mean Come On Iron Man 2 Should Had Made Over 400 Million Dollars Here In The US.

#15 - It's not that I didn't see it coming... First, I had to see it anyway, wanted to check it out. Secondly, I don't hate westerns like most and I thought the concept could've been pretty awesome. A gritty, stylish western with gatling guns and dynamite crossbows, that actually sounds badass. So it's not that I expected it to be amazing, I was just hoping it could be good, but it definitely wasn't, it was completely awful.

Alex Billington on Jun 19, 2010

I don't know why so many people are laying into this movie. It's actually pretty entertaining and I don't think it's supposed to be more than that. Get off your high horse.

Jonah Hex... This year's Transformers 2? Definitely. It's a good thing I went in with no expectations. Saw it to pass the time. Ended up wasting time. Loud noises & one liners. Malkovich phones in his performance. Pretty Fox, unsurprisingly, takes up space. Brolin could not get out of the garbage editing & dialogue that kept piling up. It's a shame too since he's a fine performer. I realize it's a summer time action flick, but there was not one entertaining moment in the entire film. Alex compared it to The Spirit. Sorry to say but The Spirit is somehow better than this one. I'm not even mad. I'm impressed.

*Sisqo belting out at the top of his lungs: "WEEEEEEEE'RE GOOOOOOOOO-ING STAIT TOOOooOoOoOooo!!!!!!!!....." WILD-WILD WEST!!! HAHAHHAHAHAH. Oh my. Megan what have you done? You would have at LEAST had transformers, but now what?? ;-/
