Stallone Says That Rambo is 'Done' & There Won't Be Another

Stallone - Rambo

One of the biggest, and strangest, news stories of last year was one about Sylvester Stallone's Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, his fifth movie in that action series that would introduce some sci-fi to the franchise. Stallone seemed pretty intent on making another sequel, even going so far as to clarify that the story had changed to being about "heading over the border to a violent city," as of last November. Well, found in the latest issue of Empire are some new quotes, re-published by TheShiznit (via ComingSoon), from Stallone himself that stating that the Rambo franchise is finished and that there will no longer be a fifth movie.

"I think Rambo's pretty well done. I don't think there'll be any more. I'm about 99 per cent sure."

Although it's unclear (since we're not in Stallone's head) why he's decided to stop after developing another sequel for so long, speculation is that he's so confident in other projects like Expendables that he doesn't need to rely on that franchise anymore. "We are very serious… we're already working on an [Expendables] sequel." So if you're a Rambo fan you better be content with the way Expendables looks, because that will probably be filling in for Rambo. Stallone has a few other action projects in development, but it looks like he's finally decided to leave Rambo and Rocky behind. It's time to move on to bigger and better, I say!

Health issues. Stallone was warned that moving forward with another sequel considering the stress levels and physical requirements would cause major damage on his body. Let's face it, the guy's... in his early 60s? Was caught with large quantities of steroids for the 2008 Rambo flick and quite honestly, only made budget due to international sales. This wasn't worth dying for.

I remember hearing he was considering another Rocky. But if he hangs up that franchise as well, I have no problems. I think "Rocky Balboa" was the only other film in that series that could live up with the original.

Rocky Balboa was a great movie and a perfect end to that series

#4 actually, rocky 4 was pretty damn awesome. As far as rambo goes, i would have liked to see a new Rambo, just to see him come back to America and his reaction to how America is now. As far as the Sci-Fi aspect of it all, that was complete BS and i can't believe they even entertained that thought. But, even though sly says Rambo is over, i'd still love to see another one.

I'd like to see another Rambo too, however the last one ended on a good note I thought. He's finally home. I'm okay with that... ...but man I'd really like to see Rambo rip some more throats open! 🙂

Rocky Balboa was great untill that MTV edited fight. But it was classy and well acted. Loved it. Rambo4 gave the "fans" of part 2 and 3 what they wanted I guess.

^^^ Dumb Sly shouldnt do another Rambo, that last all was real good. Especially how horrible that 3rd movie was, end it on a good note. Sure he can do an Expendables 2.

#3, that's dumb. if that's true why stop making rambo movies to move on to expendable movies? they're both action driven and I'd imagine, health-wise, those same issue would be there...

Expendables is a Awesome crazy movie! I saw it a while back in a screening and im going with all my friends again to see the final product.

I just hope this one is more awesome gore filled action, and less shitty horrible attempt at a story. I dont need Rambo staring at some horrible actress crying woman for the first hour and last 10 minutes again.

I think the last movie ended nicely. It closed the door on the series. I agree that there should not be another.

Rambo 4 was a lot of fun. It was old school over-the-top ridiculous fun. Rocky 4 > Rocky Balboa

I freaking love all the Rocky Movies, even Rocky 4 and Rocky Balboa. I thought Rocky Balboa ended very nicely and bookended with The First Rocky very nice. Rambo? Eh, I'm glad its done. First Blood was really the only good one, and should have had the original ending. I think it's good that Stallone is 'retiring' his old characters. It's time for him to create new icons.

Stallone did a fantastic job of wrapping up both the Rocky and the Rambo franchises. I'd hate to see him come back and rape everything he worked so hard for. Quit while you're ahead, dude. Bring on Expendables sequels!

Also of note: I find it both sad and hilarious that you're quoting a website called "The Shiznit." Seriously. Enjoy that.

That sucks... I was looking forward to another Rambo. The most recent one was awesome.

Good. Rocky Balboa was a great ending, for that series; and another Rambo film wasn't necessary. Hopefully The Expendables turns out to be a decent action movie.

Glad to see Stallone moving on has he has done very well for age in is early 60s. I think its right that he moves on to other projects like the Expendables.

I absolutely loved Rambo (4) and Rocky Balboa. They both, I felt, were great final films and a testament to the hard work of Stallone. If he makes more sequels, I'll watch em day 1. But Im completely content with having new franchises as well. As long as he keeps making these kind of movies, Im a happy guy.

Am I the only one who wishes to see Stallone do a sequel to the gangster comedy Oscar? C'mon, Stallone, let's see you tackle some more comedy. Oh, wait...He already did that with Rambo 4.

Mega Jet Jaguar on May 2, 2010

@27 -- Stallone + comedy = Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. No thanks. How about a sequel to Cobra, though? I didn't like Rocky Balboa, but Rambo was damn good. But maybe after The Expendables it's time to retire. He's had a full career.
