Stan Winston's Speed Demon Pitch Optioned by Paradox Ent

Speed Demon

Even though the legendary Stan Winston passed away last year, his legacy still lives on, not only in all of his special effects work, but in a project called Speed Demon. Variety reports that Paradox Entertainment, one of the production companies working on Conan, has optioned the Speed Demon action-horror pitch that was co-developed by Stan Winston and Peter Winther, who will direct the film. The project is described as a supernatural action flick about an "underworld enforcer," who while hunting a small-time crook on a desert highway discovers that he is also being tracked by a mysterious, terrifying creature. This could be badass!

Mike Sorrentino and Randy Vampotic wrote the script and Variety says that Patrick Tatopoulos, creator of the Underworld franchise, had a hand in designing the creatures with Winston. Speed Demon is apparently more than a classic creature feature, with merchandising potential. Some early concept art designs showed up on ShockTillYouDrop last year and that sales art at the top came from the AFM as well. This sounds like a cool concept anyway and I'm glad that a project Winston was involved in can still end up seeing the light of day. His legacy does indeed live on! No word on whether this will hit theaters or end up straight-to-DVD, as it sounds like they're going to continue developing and also looking for distributors. Stay tuned for updates!

Sounds like JEEPERS CREEPERS meets MAD MAX. Could be cool. R.I.P. Stan Winston.
