TGB Episode 3: No One Likes Top Gun? (Guest: Travis Keune)
by Tim Buel
March 29, 2010
On the latest episode of The Golden Briefcase (find older episodes here), Tim and Jeremy are joined by Travis Keune from WeAreMovieGeeks to discuss their Picks of the Week, the newest DVD/Blu-Ray releases, and the new trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Predators. They also relive Steven Spielberg's Hook and hear about the SXSW experience from their guest Travis. The main topic of the night was Favorite Films of 1986 (in honor of Hot Tub Time Machine, being released this weekend) - the guys talk about their favorites from that year and chat about the awesomeness that is Big Trouble in Little China and Cobra. Listen to it below!
The Golden Briefcase is also broadcast LIVE on Tuesday nights starting at 6:30PM (PST). You can listen in via our Ustream page or by visiting our own live page right here on FS. The podcast is just as fun to listen to live while it's being recorded, with plenty of special guests, so I suggest you tune in the next time it records!

I haven't listened to this week's episode yet but my ten favorites from '86 (in no particular order except for alphabetical)... Aliens (James Cameron) Blue Velvet (David Lynch) The Color of Money (Martin Scorsese) The Fly (David Cronenberg) Hannah and Her Sisters (Woody Allen) The Mission (Roland Joffe) Mona Lisa (Neil Jordan) Platoon (Oliver Stone) Salvador (Oliver Stone) Stand By Me (Rob Reiner) I'm a drama geek so don't get me wrong, I loved Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China but no where near as much as the others.

Gotta say I too am a Hook fan although the (amazingly underrated) soundtrack by John Williams does more for me than the film itself does. Also, thanks for showing some Big Trouble in Little China love!! "We really shook the pillars of heaven didn't we Wang?" Love it!!

I was looking through the list of 1986 movies. Damn, that's a fine list.
