Tom Hanks Writing & Directing a New Film with Julia Roberts
Wow. Nikki Finke reports that Tom Hanks is writing a new film called Larry Crowne that he will star in with Julia Roberts and also direct. As you probably know, Hanks and Roberts starred as lovers in Charlie Wilson's War from a few years ago. I could say something about how they must've really fallen in love but I won't since we're not a gossip site. Larry Crowne is a comedy about a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life. Pretty vague logline, but that's all we got for now. The financing and distribution deals are still coming together, but it sounds like it'll be ready to shoot soon.
This isn't Hanks first time directing, he last directed the musical That Thing You Do! in 1996, so its been a while. Finke says this is definitely Hanks next project following Angels & Demons last year (though he'll probably eventually get to The Lost Symbol as well). I like this combination of talents (Hanks and Roberts) and I'm curious to know more about the story in Larry Crowne. I can't say I'm sold yet, but with a duo this powerful, there's no way anyone isn't interested in seeing what they come up with. We'll keep you updated on the project including other cast members and other more elaborate story details once they're revealed.
