Enjoy Robert Rodriguez's Totally Badass 'Illegal' Trailer for 'Machete'
Over on Ain't It Cool News, Robert Rodriguez has premiered a brand new "illegal" trailer for Machete starring Danny Trejo. The crazy part is that Rodriguez got away with adding a "Cinco De Mayo Message for Arizona" that just so happens to perfectly tie in with the political madness that is occurring in Arizona in real-life right now. It's kind of eerie that it all ties in, but that kind of makes this so much more awesome to see. Rodriguez really is on top of some brilliant marketing ideas recently between this and Predators and I hope he keeps it up, cause this is just badass. Grindhouse at it's best! You've got to watch this, so fire it up.
Watch the new "illegal" trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Machete from YouTube:
After being betrayed by the organization who hired him, an ex-Federale known as Machete (Danny Trejo) launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his former boss. Jessica Alba looks pretty damn cool, too.
Machete is co-directed by both Robert Rodriguez and his long-time editor Ethan Maniquis as his very first directorial debut. The screenplay was written by Robert Rodriguez and is an expanded version of the "fake" Machete trailer Rodriguez made for the release of Grindhouse in 2007. He finally got a greenlight last year and shot this down in Austin, TX last year with quite an impressive cast. 20th Century Fox will be bringing Machete to theaters on Labor Day Weekend, September 3rd this fall. I can't wait to see this. Who else?
This looks to be one of those "its so bad that it is good" kind of flicks.
Shige on May 5, 2010
@1 No. It's one of those movies that is so bad that hipsters will go see it and it'll wind up in the walmart discount bin at the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay bottom. Passing on this so hard it hurts.
Angry Chief on May 5, 2010
Fucking sweet!!! Can't wait for this!
tra la la la la di da on May 5, 2010
For those of you passing on it. It's a film not meant to be taken seriously in the slightest. It started out as a joke trailer and now it's a joke movie. Sorry it's not artsy enough for you, take it for what it is and leave it at that. This isn't an oscar piece it's a fucking funny movie that will deliver to the audience it's intended to.

Trying way too hard to be in cool town it passes it and ends up in cringe city
harv on May 5, 2010
Not even kidding, this is the most exciting trailer I have ever seen. This movie knows exactly what it is and the casting couldnt have been better. Don Johnson? STEVEN FUCKIN SEAGAL? Bobby DeNiro? It wows in all of the right ways from the hilarity to over-the-top 70's B movieness.

Anything with Danny Trejo in it is automatically cool

Unbelievably, I still haven't seen the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse movies. Having said that, this looks crazy. And Jeff Fahey and Robert De Niro in the same scene - who'd have thunk it!

Nada Nuff on May 5, 2010
This will be so epic, hope on the same level as Planet Terror. Oh and guys its supposed to look "bad" its a throw back explotation film, do some research 😉
Jacob Crim on May 5, 2010

Trey M on May 5, 2010
Hoo ah, this is going to be fun. I damn near fell out of my chair at the "Introducing: Don Jonhson" part. Only Rodriquez can do "ensemble" movies without making it actually feel forced. Can't wait for September 3rd!
Delvis on May 5, 2010
The original Grindhouse version, of this trailer was waaaaaay better. The shoehorning in of so-called up-to-date current events makes it feel like a high school drama club production.
Dave Lister, J.M.C. on May 5, 2010
Damn, I just can't stop hating Michelle Rodriguez.
pleasepleaseplease on May 5, 2010
Totally agree with Dave. I really dug the old trailer in the original Grindhouse - this one, while fun looking, lost me because it decided to grab onto the Arizona issue. Way to screw it up, Rodriguez.
Klinger on May 5, 2010
That is Lapidis!! The pilot from Lost! Damn! The trailer looks good!
Ron on May 5, 2010
Would have been totally bad ass if they would have left the Arizona bullshit out. Can't I see a fucking movie without having to deal with reality for a bit? That is the point, right?

I live in Arizona, and i can tell you it is freaky how relevant this movie is! this is like a ww2 propoganda film. With way more T&A. This looks brilliant. Even though I support the Bill, I will still see this
indyjack86 on May 5, 2010
Lol while I'm not particularly interested in this myself, it amuses me to no end reading the comments here saying how bad it'll suck because it tries to be cool. At least I know what the movie is trying to be, and then you get people on here saying "it'll be so bad its good," or "it's one of those movies so bad that hipsters will go see it... bla bla bla." People.... *shakes head*
Chazzy O on May 5, 2010
This is fucking great, awesome cast, just awesome...anyone who hates on it probably didnt see the short in front of grindhouse. I just hope this isnt some BS political-immigration message like some of the trailer gave off.

DeNiro and Trejo together again. This looks like a fun ride. I can't believe so many of the comments are in support of Arizona. I will see this. @11 - LOL, that made my day.
Bob Dylan on May 5, 2010
Steven Segal? Robert Deniro? Honestly anyone who thinks this looks lame obviously does not like their movies to be entertaining.
SkaOreo on May 5, 2010
Wow...up until today I firmly believed that any normal nation has the right to control who enters their country but after seeing this trailer I realize how wrong I've been and that the US should allow anyone to enter. Well only if you're Latino I mean...you white, asian and black folk from Canada, Europe, Africa and Asia still have to play by the rules. Thanks for showing me the error of my ways Robert. All this time I looked at countries in Asia and Europe as a model of how one should control their borders...I guess those progressive countries are in fact dead wrong...the correct way is to allow anyone who is Latino to simply enter at will without any documentation or any assurance that they will pay taxes, follow our laws and not milk the system. I now know that wanting them to play by the rules that other immigrants follow is racist of me... /sarcasm
Geoff on May 5, 2010
SO FUNNY! anyone who dares to think this is something serious (and based on that make a review is TOTALLY wrong. It whould be as it is: a mockery to have an awesome time at the movie theater!! Danny Trejo and Steven Segal fighting with machetes: priceless!! Can't wait to see it!!

Roger on May 5, 2010
I will be going to the midnight showing of this kick ass looking movie with all my friends! ...But I don't need hollywood telling me what's "right" and "wrong" (ex: illegal immigration). Hollywood wouldn't know morals and what's right if it came up and kicked them in the crotch. P.S. #47...you frickin rule dude!
Jeep-Fu on May 5, 2010
So friggin stupid. I'll go see it for Lohan though. lol
Marty Martin on May 5, 2010
#47 Wow, I must've missed all the preaching in the trailer, they must've hidden it somewhere in between the explosions, shooting, and fighting with machetes... It's just a fun Mexploitation film, ffs.
Luis M on May 5, 2010
This looks completely retarded. Mexicans perpetuating mexican stereotypes. Rodriguez is like a latino version of tyler perry. And no that wasn't a compliment....

I feel the need to express my feelings for this trailer in short, but strong words. FUCK YEAH
PropheT on May 5, 2010
did someone just write they would only see this for lohan? wow... standards. and anyone who's bagging on Arizona, quit watching the news and actually read the freaking immigration bill. Nothing changes! all that we ask is that if you do something stupid and you don't belong here. You pay a fine, and go home! ( whatever country that may be) that being said.... this movie still looks awesome.
indyjack86 on May 5, 2010
That was balls...they totally skipped the wife and daughter part though hahaha Still a good trailer
Jaf on May 5, 2010
Im still interested (loved the Grindhouse trailer) but this one didn't have exactly the same all around bad ass feel. It didn't overboard Bmovie itself, like the original trailer. Hopefully its just for marketing reasons. I also hate how politically charged it seems to be. Thats just stupid. "We didnt cross the boarder, THE BOARDER CROSSED US!" no. if you crossed into the country....you crossed the boarder. stupid stupid stupid.
Al on May 5, 2010
looks awesome. yes, Rodriguez makes mindless entertainment.... god bless him. F*ck Arizona. buncha' redneck dumb asses. didn't learn their lesson with MLK's birthday.
karl-los Muertos on May 5, 2010
lol, a state law that simply gives state officials the right to enforce federal laws hardly warrants this kind of response... hardly, especially tasteless given how criminals have brutally been killing people on the border in an pandemic of cold blooded slaughter lately. Coyotes have hurt a lot of border jumpers as well as American citizens, I do not think we want to be taking their side. This cringe worthy attempt to dupe the idiot population in the US that ages between 15 and 21 will really just make a lot of people angry given that it is so dishonest. Jessica Alba still looks hot at least, really the only positive I can draw from this clusterf*ck of a sh*tfest.

John Stamos on May 5, 2010
#65... Are you an idiot? In fact, anyone who thinks this movie was made because of the new illegal immigrant laws in Arizona, are you all retarded? How long do you think it takes to make a movie? Because it is a hell of a lot longer than 1-2 weeks! This was being made long before those laws, it isn't made because of them. Use your brains you damn rednecks. The plot of this film first surfaced in 2007, perhaps you should take the time to read the two small paragraphs at the top, or is that too much for you? On another note, I am freaking amp'd for this film! Hope that it comes out in theatres here, otherwise I am getting it on dvd and getting my friend who works in a cinema to show it on a big screen via dvd projector. KEEEEEEN!

The law in Arizona mimics the federal law that the federal government sporadically enforces. If you drive between Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas there are federal border guards that stop you and ask you questions. I've been in the lines and seen them take cars full of people and arrest them. But now that a state is going to enforce the law within its borders everyones' pissed off. If you don't live in Arizona and don't live through the crap that illegals cause in this state, you have no right to criticize. It isn't a racial issue - it is a legal issue. Buy the way, I'm hispanic.
J. Hernadez on May 6, 2010
Robert Rodriguez has worked in the past with Quentin Tarantino, I'm guessing a total Tarantino approach to this movie. Its also the second time De Niro and Tarantino work together, since Jackie Brown in 1997. Its also the first time Cheech Marin and Don Johnson work together in 15 years, since Tin Cup.

People go the the movies to get out of reality....If Rodriguez want to show his a pledge to Mexico he should understand that his millionaire fortune comes from America. He is free to make films in Mexico ....but first he must get a visa....if he wants to work in Mexico. This whole immigration issue is about Az. survival. Not racial fucking profiling. People come here for oppertunity & America has been a great host....well not we're broke & we need to first hewlp our own....that's all Az. is saying. Let them. How would you like it people crossing your land daily & then aiming at you ....then killing you & for meaness shooting you dog? Image that life. Help America first....then we'll take on more poor people...that is tehe American way. LOOKS LIKE A GOTTA SEE MOVIE!!....PULL THE POLITICAL MESSAGE.

Is Robert Rodriguez going to protest Israel's and Mexico's laws against illegal immigration? Mexico has the General Law on Population, which mandates that federal, local, and municipal police work with federal immigration authorities in arresting illegal immigrants. In Mexico, illegal immigration is a felony punished by up to 2 years in prison. Illegal aliens who are caught trying to reenter Mexico can be imprisoned for 10 years. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals. Where is the protest against these laws Robert Rodriguez?
