Tron Legacy Viral

This is the perfect day for another viral to kick back into action. ComingSoon says that one of their readers in Puerto Rico received a box from the Flynn Lives group ( containing a big, odd, red star plus a URL written inside the box that points to This Tron Legacy viral kicked off last summer during Comic-Con, where Flynn's Arcade tokens were sent out and an actual arcade was discovered in San Diego (see photos here). We're not sure where this is going to take us next, but it looks like the next phase of this Tron Legacy viral is starting. Can't wait to see what's in store for us viral geeks!

Flynn Lives - Zero Hour

We're not sure what's going on at this Zero Hour site yet, but it looks like there's some Flash game we've got to play (or figure out) to get to the next step. Those little red stars are from the original Tron as well but I can't exactly remember what they do, although I think they're good guys. Anyone have any idea? A few of the stars on the right side of the grid keep changing back and forth between the orange diamond and the star. Maybe it's some sort of code? This is the most we've discovered so far in regards to this latest aspect of the Tron Legacy viral game, but we'll be updating this post with more details as they arrive - so stay tuned!

The only other site involved in this Tron Legacy viral is the site for Flynn's Arcade. I did a quick check that of site and the Flynn Lives site and there have been no major changes to either page yet.

Looks like some sort of countdown in binary. 8bits = 1 byte.

Scott on Feb 15, 2010

according to comingsoon, its a countdown in binary.

alex Schollar on Feb 15, 2010

You're definitely right about it being a countdown timer, but I wonder what it's counting down to? How long does it say is left? And what happens when the timer runs out? Any ideas?

Alex Billington on Feb 15, 2010

Right now it reads 8 days, 19 hours, 53 minutes and counting down.

David on Feb 15, 2010

The red stars, if I remember correctly, were the "no" state for the cursor assisting J.Bridges original program at the begining of Tron. This is from memory though, and I would have to rewatch it to be certain.

Warob on Feb 15, 2010

It's the 'no bit!!!' or geometrically, the 35th stellation of the icosahedron.

Davy on Feb 15, 2010

Its the 'bit' from the original tron -

Blake on Feb 15, 2010

Maybe it's a countdown to a trailer? Or a brand new viral site?

Dan W on Feb 15, 2010

#7 - That's exactly what I was looking for! Yea, they're definitely bits. The countdown looks like it expires on February 24th at 8AM PST if #4 is accurate (just did some calculations - it's about 8 days, 24 hours, 84 minutes now - he's right).

Alex Billington on Feb 15, 2010

Well, it's not for a trailer with the release of Alice... that comes out of the 5th of march. Even though it's 4 groups of binary bit's it's also not a revolving ip-address scheme leading to some other website. It's also 1 solid flash or java object, I haven't found any combination links or clickable material so far. The code for the site is pretty basic too, haven't found anything pointing elsewhere yet. That's probably waaaaaayyyyyyy too much analysis for a clock, but viral campaigns tend to do things like that.

Dale on Feb 15, 2010

Just speculating, but perhaps this is the countdown to the release of the first REAL Tron Legacy trailer. After all, it was announced a trailer for the film would be attached to Alice in Wonderland when it comes out in two weeks.

Alex, I think one of our math is a little off. I have it expiring Wednesday Feb 24, at 8:00 AM Pacific time. Or midnight Greenwich Mean Time.

David on Feb 15, 2010

but if its 8 days 24 hours the 24 hours counts as another day so its basically saying in 9 days and 84 min. something may happen like a trailer or some special involving tron may happen wednesday next week anybody thinking of whats going on like events or movies happening that day??

KyLe# on Feb 15, 2010

I think it will be the new trailer surely. If you were truly a geek you could have a look in the code and find out. It wouldn't be that hard. Then you'd matrixing the tron.

Crapola on Feb 15, 2010

#13 - You are right actually, it ends at 8AM on the 24th, sorry about that! 🙂

Alex Billington on Feb 15, 2010

looks like a count down 90 something days... puts it in june. Toy Story 3 opens which is also a Disney movie... TRON TRAILER MAY BE?

dave on Feb 16, 2010

My brother just got a blue thing in the mail from San Diego and it had 'FLynn Lives' on the box and a code inside to that binary countdown website. The object in the box is like a blue polyhedron with like 80 sides to it. Can someone fill us in on what this is about? We have no idea how they have our home address or anything about this.

Josh on Feb 16, 2010

The code is easy. 0000 = 0 0001 = 1 0010 = 2 0011 = 3 0100 = 4 0101 = 5 0110 = 6 0111 =7 1000 =8 1001 = 9 1010 = 10

MarcelZybell on Feb 16, 2010

It seems three bits in all were sent out. It's also my belief there is a hidden message in the packaging. I think it'll be tough to put together though.

Nick Bulter on Feb 16, 2010

I haven't found any hidden message yet.

Josh on Feb 16, 2010

Josh, did your brother throw away the strips of paper it was packed in? Some of the strips may have letters on them. Possibly working with others may reveal something. Check the link Nick provided in post #20 for more info.

VanGoghX on Feb 17, 2010

No strips other than the yellowish ones that are like accordians. No writing at all. Totally positive, and I checked that link and I don't have any like that. And I doubt his theory of names because my last name is nowhere on that list he's thinking.

Josh on Feb 17, 2010

I dont know if its just on my screen, but if you scroll down beneath the timer, theres a bunch of blue specs...anyone thinks that means anything? Maybe a message or image gradually being revealed as the clock keeps ticking?

Cody on Feb 17, 2010

Cody, you're absolutely right! Something is being revealed! Nice find!

VanGoghX on Feb 17, 2010

so the code turned out to be city names. any guesses on what's up?

shane brooks on Feb 19, 2010

What cities?

Josh on Feb 20, 2010
