Mr. Timms

Before we knew that Rango was actually a chameleon who becomes a sheriff in a dusty western town called Dirt, our first introduction to this animated movie came in the form of a short teaser that showed nothing more than a squeaky giant orange floating fish (seen above) floating across a road. Apparently he's called Mr. Timms and is a strange orange Japanese wind-up fish toy of sorts. What it has to do with the movie, I still don't know. SlashFilm discovered that there's a (viral?) site located at mrtimms.com for the toy and announced on the blog on that site is news that they will be at Comic-Con later this week at booth #3913.

The strange thing is that I can't find any connection between the Mr. Timms website and Rango besides the orange fish that appeared in that first teaser. The site came online recently and has some random photos of a bearded fellow hanging out with two pretty ladies and the orange fish, plus some "fishy face" photos as a well as a blog that doesn't mention anything related to chameleons or other desert animals. The site is a self-described "super special fan site and store" for Mr. Timms, and t-shirts will be available (I'm sure after they're given out at Comic-Con). Other than that I really don't know how this ties in with Rango (if at all).

I guess we'll keep our eye on the website and check out the booth when we're down at Comic-Con later this week. It would honestly be pretty cool to see a full-fledged funky viral like this actually come together for Rango, so I hope this all accurate, but we don't really know for now. Check out the website and let us know if you find anything strange out there related to Rango or Mr. Timms. Anyone know what's going on?

The fish is also in one of the longer trailers. Rango looks up as the fish floats by.
