Cowboys & Aliens

"I'm already doing a commentary track on a movie that I'm in the middle of the director's cut," laughed Jon Favreau. One of the most popular trailers of last week was easily Cowboys & Aliens, the slick new comic book movie starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde, among others. MTV asked director Jon Favreau to record a commentary track for the trailer, talking about certain scenes and what it shows, what it doesn't show, and so much more to get you hyped up for this awesome action western next summer. In additional videos on MTV, Favreau also talks about casting and much more. Definitely can't wait for this.

Watch the new Cowboys & Aliens promo featurette featuring Jon Favreau commentary:

Craig plays Jake Lonergan, a stranger with no memory of his past who stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. But the town is soon invaded by aliens and Jake must pull together a posse comprised of former opponents to combat these extraterrestrials. In addition to Daniel Craig, Cowboys & Aliens also stars Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Noah Ringer, Clancy Brown and the legendary Harrison Ford as Col. Dolarhyde. Jon Favreau is directing this adaptation from a screenplay co-written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci & Damon Lindelof. Universal is bringing Cowboys & Aliens in only 2D to theaters on July 29th, 2011 next summer.

I stopped watching just over a minute in. I feel like too much was being said already. I don't want to know what the first shot of the movie is... haha! Teaser commentary? I'll pass and wait for the film commentary.

Weellllll...I was going to say that other than at the beginning, they don't give anything else away....then around 4 1/2 mins, they drop more plot info that I would have rather discovered while seeing the final product. Oh well, lesson learned. Still very interested to see it...I had no idea that Harrison Ford was in this film until the teaser, and I'm a huge Daniel Craig fan. This film is going to be either VERY good or VERY bad. Mixing these two genres is somewhat original, and it's going to be very interesting to see what they do with the material. STILL HOPEFUL!! PS....I was familiar with the name "Jon Favreau" as a director, and familiar with his face as an actor...but I never put the two together. Big damn dunce cap on my head!

Cool. Another movie character named "Dolarhyde."

The "teaser" shown before Harry Potter 7.1 only elicited laughs from everyone in the theater. Now, I'm not studio exec, but I'm pretty sure they weren't aiming for that response.

That quote at the start of the article would be funny if it made any sense,

This is bloody fantastic....perfect casting and Favreau ( as proven) has the vision to pull this off. To # 5....."Who's the wildman now??!!"

#7 That wasn't the reaction in every theater. Way to generalize one experience for what you feel will be the entire experience. In the theater I was in, the audience applauded at the trailer...Especially when Harrison Ford came on screen. They also applauded at the end of the trailer and I heard the guy behind me say, "Can I watch that instead."

I didn't generalize anything. I merely said that, in the theater i was in, people laughed. Statement. I know that's not going to be the case with everyone. But me, being in the marketing industry, seeing even one theater erupt with laughter has me worried for the film. Not the film itself, but the reception it'll have upon release.

^^ I was in a theatre full of 18-35yr. olds in NYC for HP7.1 and this trailer also got A LOT of scoffing laughter. Its very premise is ridiculous and the title is also so simple it seems to reek of disaster. But thats half of what makes this movie intriguing to some. Im not saying it will be a flop or that its good or bad, but I will side that this movie has a lot of assumed absurdity and the trailer only heightens it. Personally, I'm intrigued and will likely see it, but damned if i didnt think Iron Man 2 was absolute crap and think that Favreau movies blow more often than not....and that Harrison Ford should just retire. Oh, yeah...and I thought the commentary was lame.
