Watch: First Official Trailer for Disney's New 'Mars Needs Moms!'

"Mom needs a little space." Disney has debuted the official trailer via Yahoo for Mars Needs Moms!, the upcoming animated sci-fi flick based on Berkeley Breathed's children's book. This trailer has been showing in front of Harry Potter, so some of you might have already seen this, but now it's officially online for those who haven't. The movie features the voices of Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Dan Fogler. This trailer seems a bit odd because it has the Zemeckis CGI rolled into a conventional animated movie and I'm not sure it works too well, it kind of looks goofy, to be honest. But that said, I'm a sci-fi nut, so I'm still curious. Check it out!

A boy named Milo gains a deeper appreciation for his mom after Martians land on Earth and take her.
Mars Needs Moms! is directed by British filmmaker Simon Wells, great grand-son of H.G. Wells, who has directed films like An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, Balto, The Prince of Egypt and The Time Machine, but its been a while since he last directed. The screenplay was co-written by Simon and presumable his wife, Wendy Wells. It's based on Berkeley Breathed's book of the same name. This was produced at ImageMovers and is being released by Disney in 3D on March 11th, 2011 next year.

Yeah, something a bit off-putting about the character design and overall look of the movie that kinda threw me off from completely enjoying this trailer and made it a little difficult to be intrigued

I don't like that they gave the human characters such realistic looks. I think it would have been a lot more endearing if they looked more cartoony and goofy. The silliness of the dialog just doesn't mesh well with the design of the characters, and ends up feeling forced. It just looks bad to me. It simply lacks the warmth and "Aww!" factor of something like Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon or Toy Story. Need more big googly eyes, guys!

Well I can tell you this. It looks better than Space Chimps, Planet 51, and Fly Me to the Moon, thats for sure

Hell, it's based on a great book, anyway. And it certainly looks great (at least to me, but then again, I wear some pretty thick specs). Heck, let's give it a chance--this is only the trailer, not the complete film.

@1,2,3 Totally agree with you. The character voice acting sounds amazing, too bad it literally looks bad.

The sound, sounded like it wasn't actually in the environments... like a cheap CG movie. Anyone else feel this way?

I feel cold, these characters had no souls! Fogler might just be the only reason I see it.

I wish Mars would come and take Sarah Palin. She's only good for one thing- taking care of her moron children.

@ 1, 2, 7, 8 They used the same technology behind The Polar Express to do the facial animations. I'm actually impressed it doesn't look AS creepy as it did in Polar Express. Which is saying a lot when it comes to this style of animation because there isn't much wiggle room on the output of the characteristics (from what I've heard from an animation professor of mine) The story looks good and I'm always a fan of random aliens that pretend to vacuum.

When I saw the creepy dead eyes I figured it was that Polar Express studio. I was right.

I looks too violent and creepy for under 4, but too stupid for over 8. They've got a narrow audience.

Just in case anyone was still laboring the hope that Disney had learned something from Pixar... They didn't.

Well I like a lot of the director's filmography, and it looks like a fun movie, I'll give it a shot.

I don't get a feel for the humor yet. I think they need to release a trailer showing a little more of the humor of the film. I'm sure that would take people's minds off the animation.

I think it looks excellent, the animation moves along nicely, a big upgrade to Polar Express. And the characters are fun and unique, sure kids will dig it if the story works, that's the only IF IMHO....

I think the animations are great!!! Reminded me of the ones from the "LA Noire" trailer, the new game by Rockstar, makers of GTA. I do think it is easier for people to relate to more abstract human figures, like the ones used by pixar, but i like this style. I also loved Polar express, so that's that 😛

Are you guys insane! something comes along that isn't a carbon copy of another film and instantly it looks bad. The look of the film and the voice acting is what toed me in from the start. You guy's may be happy watching Shrek the 50th but I'll take a new look and a sci-fi film any day.

the people behind The Polar Express have this thing about how they get the eyes wrong in all their films. They look DEAD inside. Like hollow shells.
