The Goon Teaser

One comic book adaptation we've been following for years is The Goon. Blur Studios, the animation house also working on David Fincher's Heavy Metal, has been developing this animated feature for quite a while. We featured a first look photo last March, as well as provided a few updates on its voice cast and status, but we've still been waiting to see any footage. That wait is over as MTV has debuted a totally kick ass 30-second teaser for The Goon to tease the upcoming Comic-Con panel on Friday night (where even more footage will be shown). The voices are Clancy Brown as the Goon and Paul Giamatti as sidekick Franky. Have fun!

Watch the short teaser trailer for Blur Studio's The Goon direct from YouTube:

As far as we know, this still doesn't have a distributor or release date yet, so we're not sure when we'll see it.

The Goon is a comic book series created by Eric Powell in 1999 and published by Avatar Press. It follows the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in "other machinations," often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest (ahh!). The series has a distinctly paranormal slant, with the average story concerning ghosts, ghouls, skunk-apes, extra-dimensional aliens, and mad scientists. We'll have more updates on The Goon for you from Comic-Con this week - stay tuned!

jeffrey Lamar on Jul 19, 2010

sweet, its everything I wanted to be and more! Brown and Giamatti? what more do you need!?

Xerxex on Jul 19, 2010

Never thought I'd hear "White Trash" by Southern Culture on The Skids in a movie trailer.

Delvis on Jul 19, 2010

Dope! It's really a shame that it still has no distributor. Unbelievable. Blur Studios is one of the best animation studios, if not the best and we will all miss out on something solid if this never hits the screen.

Phontsolo on Jul 19, 2010

While it looks unique and somewhat entertaining, I don't think it's poised for commercial success. It lacks wide-appeal. Unfortunately, probably the only people who'll see it are fanboys, misinformed families who think it's another children's cartoon, and randoms who can't find anything better on the silver screens at the time.

I've had a hankering for zombie related stuff ever since High School of the Dead came out. This looks interesting; might even be rated R.

lamar on Jul 19, 2010

I need to see more

Duck on Jul 19, 2010

hot damn this looks great. @ 8 sad to say you are correct.

JNYCE on Jul 19, 2010

Youtube link? That MTV player is doing it's weird USA/UK thing again. Fuck them. Looking forward to this.

Crapola on Jul 19, 2010

It's published by Dark Horse now. His contract with Avatar press didn't last long at all. Anyway, looks awesome.

Garrett on Jul 19, 2010

@ 8 Diddo.

John Doe on Jul 19, 2010

looks like 'sin city'done in cgi. waste of time imo.

Para on Jul 19, 2010

Never heard of this. should I have?

John on Jul 19, 2010

well done @14, you just made the internet look stupid.

jamie s on Jul 19, 2010

@14 - Wow... Just... Wow! Way to go man, you've managed to prove two things in one sentence. 1. You've no clue about this property or how good it is 2. You have no idea how much of Sin City was utterly cgi. Looking forward to your next comment about Inception being like The Matrix but with cgi and wire work fight scenes.

Cartoonbeardy on Jul 20, 2010

cool,i want more of this now.

deadpool72 on Jul 20, 2010

I don't know about that number 8. I'm a pretty big comic book fan but I never read a single issue of the Goon. I honestly had barely any interest in the movie for it until I saw that right there. Looks cool as all hell. If it's a quality picture, I'm betting it'll be a success. They got cool crap to show the people, the people are gonna go see it.

Da Man on Jul 20, 2010

This is the same Blur Studio that has done the CGI trailers for Bioware?

jt2002tj on Jul 20, 2010

@ 20, yes this is the same Blur Studio that has done some amazing work over the years ( check out their official website for the list of clients) , their body of work is just awesome, i can't load the trailer in my country but i'm definitely looking forward to this since its from Blur Studios.

andrew on Jul 20, 2010

This looks all kinds of wonderful. Sure, it's not very appealing for the majority of movie-goers, but fuck them, you know? That's what Step Up 3D is for. I'd love to see this on the big screen. Also @ 14: God damn it, man.

Cracky on Jul 20, 2010

ohhhh yeahh... i absolutely love the look and feel to this flick

doomcanoe on Jul 20, 2010

Looks good. The main guy looked like the same kind of animation that's on the Drinky Crow Show, if anyone is familiar with it. Are some of the same folks involved?

RC on Jul 20, 2010

Blur studios at it again!

Ells on Jul 21, 2010

Wow! That looked rad! I'm with #22 if the mainstream audiences don't like this, then there's no hope for 'em.
