Shanghai Trailer

Wow, this looks fantastic! The Playlist has found the first international trailer for a film called Shanghai, directed by Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström (Derailed, 1408), starring John Cusack, Chow Yun-Fat, Ken Watanabe, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, David Morse, Franka Potente, Li Gong, Rinko Kikuchi, and many more. This actually looks way better than I was expecting - it's just an intense thriller set in Shanghai, China, complete with shoot outs and big secret government conspiracies and so much more. Really looking forward to seeing this after watching the trailer! It should play at festivals in the fall as well. Watch below.

Watch the new international trailer for Mikael Håfström's Shanghai from YouTube:

A '40s period piece which revolves around an American expatriate (John Cusack) who returns to Shanghai a few months before Pearl Harbor to investigate the strange death of his friend (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Shanghai is directed by Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström, of Days Like This, Drowning Ghost, Derailed and the Cusack thriller 1408 previously. The script was written by Oscar nominated writer Hossein Amini, of Jude, The Wings of the Dove, The Four Feathers, and Killshot previously. The Weinstein Co. picked up distribution rights to this last year and will be bringing Shanghai to theaters sometime in the fall - but an exact date hasn't been set yet. We'll keep you updated on the latest with this one. Anyone interested?

Is that the dad from Supernatural? It looks interesting. I think the trailer was too long though.

It could do with some of the class 'The White Countess' had, some of it looks too melodramatic. Although I'll be one of the first in the queue.

The look and feel of it reminds me Blood Brothers from a couple of years ago.

looks like it has a good noir vibe to it and I for one like that. I'll see it for sure. I'm gonna assume that Cusack dies at the end, it only seems logical.

even more importantly, Ken Watanabe from Last Samurai and Letters from Iwo Jima!

@xerxex, I'm going to guess Jefferey Dean Morgan dies in the beginning. Maybe he doesn't mind it so much after Watchmen.

Roderick you were right...I should read before posting, shouldn't I? would save face. @Preston yep...I'd guesstimate that.

This looks great, but I agree that the trailer gives away too much. It's refreshing to see a unique idea come to the big screen with some major players attached.

Is it me or do directors enjoy killing Jeffery Dean Morgan early on in films? Apart from The Losers he seems to be killed off! It's a shame as I think he's a great actor and needs larger roles

That is the Comedian! Totally forgot.

When does Short Round rescue Indiana Jones in this one? That part is gonna rule.

Interesting. However, can they just for once not ahve the guy who we are following sleep with the supposed bad guy's wife. It's done so many times before that it gets boring.

This trailer is crap! "Welcome to Shanghai", really? How many fillping times are the people that make these trailers going to use that stupid line? I am sure this movie will be a good rental despite this crappy trailer.
