Fair Game Trailer

Summit has debuted the official trailer for Doug Liman's new political film Fair Game, starring Naomi Watts as ousted CIA agent Valerie Plame (a real-life individual) and Sean Penn as her husband Joseph Wilson. The film is one of Liman's most well-made yet, telling a heated story about Plame, who was ousted in a NY Times article when her investigation into the Iraq war started to venture into areas the government didn't want. I actually saw this film at the Cannes Film Festival and it's good, but not great. It just felt a little empty, like one of those one-off political films you see once. That said, this is a good trailer, so check it out!

Fair Game is directed by veteran American filmmaker Doug Liman, of many great films like Swingers, Go, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Jumper previously. The screenplay was co-written by brothers Jez Butterworth (Mojo, Birthday Girl, The Last Legion) and first-timer John-Henry Butterworth. It's based on both Valerie Plame's book "Fair Game" and her husband Joe Wilson's book "The Politics of Truth". The film first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and is being released by Summit Ent in the US. Fair Game arrives in theaters everywhere starting on November 5th late this fall. Anyone interested?

At 1:52 when Penn cuts the air with his finger then an explosion happens, best part of the trailer. This looks pretty good, reminds me a little bit of The International.

is there be any mention of Robert Novak the journalist who leaked her cover in the film, alex?

Xerxex on Aug 18, 2010

^ Of course, that's a key part of the film! It's mainly focused on Plame and Wilson, but he's definitely in there briefly during that part of the story.

Alex Billington on Aug 18, 2010

perhaps that was a dumb question?

Xerxex on Aug 18, 2010

Interesting. I guess I'll check it out.

Amazing! Watts looks fabulous here. I do like when I see stories I read about turned into films... some of them.

'I don't have a breaking point' Just wait til the simulated drowning and the naked pile ups. It looks like another 'wooo the government is bad, but I'm doing the right thing' type movies. I wish it were like that in real life, sadly she'd probably be dead 15 minutes into the film.

who plays him? somebody famous?

Xerxex on Aug 18, 2010

oh god what's with these political attack ads running everywhere?

LINKFX on Aug 18, 2010

just to clarify, not the trailer, but the ads that run after the trailer via yahoo! it's, really annoying...

LINKFX on Aug 18, 2010

#10 - If we could, I'd run the trailer in our player, but the studios specifically demand (ugh) that we use the Yahoo version. So all the ads and crap that comes with that, you have to blame them and yell at Yahoo, not us! We have no choice, we have to use this player. 🙁

Sean Penn is always complaining about something. But this looks good. It's disgusting to think the Bush government did this to a true patriot.

tEDDY bESS on Aug 18, 2010

#12 - i didn't know a "true patriot" writes tell-all books, and goes on every talk-show available when life doesn't go their way........... i think the movie (just like her book) should be titled " the truth as valerie plame sees it"....... and it should definitely be classified as fantasy. i'm sure i'll rent this.............. sometime................ when i need a good laugh.

beavis on Aug 18, 2010

#13 C'mon dude. It's a movie. A moooooooooooooovie.

ModernAmericanMan on Aug 18, 2010

@ 13. Not a patriot? She served her country as a covert CIA agent - protecting idiots like you.

tEDDY bESS on Aug 18, 2010

"[...] like one of those one-off political films you see once." I don't think this is ANYTHING like 'one of those one-off political films you see once', I think it's much more than that. Because it's based on true events and it is directed by Doug Liman, this could be one of those one of a kind political films you'll see a lot more than once.

#13 - c'mon dude - it's an opinion..........just like your opinion on the skyline poster which i just read - and didn't agree with ............. but you can think what you want. how about giving me the same courtesy. #15 - she didn't protect anyone. as a matter of fact - she betrayed this country by running to the talk-show/interview circuit (and now movies, as well) as soon as life didn't go the way she wanted it too. also, covert does not mean she used a gun and caught bad guys. and, if you believe one woman is going to stop other countries from aquiring nuclear weapons - YOU are the idiot. #16 it's based on "true" events as far as how VP sees it. i don't know that the public will ever know what really happened here since it seems to be complicated by VP own personal beliefs; her husbands unnecessary/inappropriate involvement and the political motivations of govt. officails. i've also read that it was the CIA that leaked the information - who knows what's true. i do know it's hard to take this woman serious........she's shown over the last few years she's using this event as a means to make money - and in a sad way, that DOES seem to make her a "real" american.

I love movies that turn Bush into darth vader, can't wait to see what shitty government thrillers will come out after the Obama administration...... *sarcasm

indyjack on Aug 19, 2010

As much as I dig Penn's acting in general, this is too thick to swallow either way.

Johnny Neat on Aug 19, 2010

That looks like a great thriller

#17 Beavis Don't take me too seriously Beavis. I was messing with you. No need to get all serious.

ModernAmericanMan on Aug 19, 2010

#21 -no problem, MAM!

beavis on Aug 19, 2010

looks like a good movie overall. a good thriller, certainly. in the real world, here's an old news article on the real Val P that doesn't seem too biased (as news articles go).;contentBody
