The Social Network

While I'm normally always excited to see any new footage from a David Fincher movie, this TV trailer isn't exactly that great, so don't get too excited. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but a new trailer for Fincher's The Social Network was emailed to me (by JD) from YouTube. This definitely feels like a 60-second TV spot, with the music choice and structure, so I'm thinking that's what it is. The trailer features Kanye West's "Power" and is very low quality, very dark, and not the best thing to watch, but at this point I think I've seen enough anyway. It contains most scenes from the theatrical trailer as well as a few new shots. Watch below.

Watch the new 60-second TV trailer for David Fincher's The Social Network from YouTube:

The Social Network is directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker David Fincher, of superb films like Alien 3, Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button previously. The script was written by screenwriter and producer Aaron Sorkin, of A Few Good Men, "The West Wing", and Charlie Wilson's War previously. It's based on Ben Mezrich's novel titled The Accidental Billionaires, about the founding of Facebook: "A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal." Sony is bringing The Social Network to theaters starting on October 1st this fall. For more info and updates, visit the official website.

Making a drama out of one of the most boring stories there is. Who is this film catered to ? Little kids ? Adults ? Facebook nerds ? None of them watch IT-drama or bioptics.

Shige on Jul 30, 2010

i agree whats the point of that movie? to see how its "all" starts? why no how google starts? or yahoo? i mean, who cares to see that? i dont i have no idea who would like to, how bored with your life or how much does it have to suck to go to the cinema to watch "this"

gfdgd on Jul 30, 2010

I feel like the only way people would be drawn to this movie if they renamed it "Facebook" At least then they might be a little curious....

The song was at least awesome...

That Awesome Norwegian Dude on Jul 30, 2010

yeah, it doesn't really have an audience... But Fincher can't really fail. So it will be good, even though it won't do super at the B.O. I think it will be a dark and fascinating story. Stop looking yourself blind on the "facebook"-part... I don't think Fincher ent out to make a documentary about the site...

ryderup on Jul 30, 2010

i think its the perfect moment to come out with this movie. "who would it draw?" does that matter when the squeakquel makes 200 million and the informant makes about 30? smart people like fincher and sorkin could make this a really interesting thing that speaks to a big change in the way people communicate with each other over facebook. the full trailer set that theme up super nicely with the pictures of ppl on facebook and modes of communication through facebook like "2 people like this," "in a relationship," "where are you?." we need more stories that give a thoughtful look into how the internet and technology is changing people. i'll be there

chrisg on Jul 30, 2010

this is one of those movies that just leaves me NOT wanting more. i don't see why anyone would be interested in this............ this is a definite miss for me. i certainly hope this doesn't start a new trend - with movies about twitter or youtube showing up within the next year.

beavis on Jul 30, 2010

I have to agree with number se7en (see what I did there). I don't think this will be seen as the dud in Fincher's career but it will certainly fly by with little to no attention.

Moon on Jul 30, 2010

I'm calling it here and now... Potential Oscar nomination for Jesse Eisenberg!

Kinks! on Jul 30, 2010

As much as I find this whole story boring at first, in the hands of Fincher its looking better and better each time I see more. Could be a sleepy hit of some sort.

Johnny Neat on Jul 30, 2010

GODDAMN YOU FINCHER! im sure you are loosing your fucking mind with this rubbish movies like zodiac and Benjamin Button! i think this is because of you are getting fucking old man....find you self,im waiting for another spy kid 3D with ur name and PG-13... why u doing such bullshit movies???? where is fincher of alien 3 and seven and fight club??? fuck facebook and your fucking movie.

Joe on Jul 30, 2010

@13 Those were 2 of Fincher's best movies. Safe to say you don't even know the man you seem to like so much. This trailer looks solid...I'll be there in line waiting to see it...It's Fincher for god's sake! 😉

Geoff on Jul 30, 2010

#13. Who are you... Bullshit movies? Wasn't a big fan of benjammin Button but it's not rubbish. Zodiac is one of the best movies in recent years. And you mention Alien3 as it is one of his best movies. He didn't even finish that one.. so... yeah... you're sort of a tool...

ryderup on Jul 30, 2010

It's a modern story about betrayal. It's about greed. It's the "Wall Street" for the modern era, but with an IT twist. Not to mention it's about the fastest rising online social network in internet history. True, it won't do multi-millions, but that's never been Fincher's intentions. Look at his track record: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button $127,509,326 Zodiac $33,080,084 Panic Room $96,397,334 Fight Club $37,030,102 The Game $48,323,648 Seven $100,125,643 Alien 3 $55,473,545 Fincher does dramas with strange twists. This is another one in the long line.

ModernAmericanMan on Jul 30, 2010

#16. Strange twist in Facebook ? Please do not even mention Wall Street and this pile of crap in same sentence.

Shige on Jul 30, 2010

#17. Please. stfu. As I wrote before, Fincher did not pick this script with the intention of making a documentary about facebook! Stop with the bullshit. I think the Wall Street reference is great, both are about greed in relation to success. All you people stuck on the fact that it's using the facebook as a backdrop, come on.. Move on - it's FINCHER and TRENT REZNOR. #16. Well, he brings it on the homevideomarket so 🙂

ryderup on Jul 30, 2010

not interested

antioch on Jul 30, 2010

No matter how bad this movie people think it is that will all change once the movie starts getting good reviews.David Fincher has good record of making good moviesand no way this movie is gonna fail .

joe_6285 on Jul 30, 2010

I swear to god, some of you guys are such tools. I hate to be so blunt, but NONE of you will ever be happy with anything. What's the point of this movie? To tell a story. Like any movie. Jesus christ, get over it.

ryan_34 on Jul 30, 2010

i think something happened to Fincher after "Panic room" movie.fincher did a happy end at Panic Room and i think that was first sign of changing his way of film making.you can check his recent commercials and see how his performance starting to reduce time by time.... "Zodiac" dont have any suspense and "Benjamin Button" had a nice story that every director could make it as good as Fincher.what sign of fincher was in two recent movies??? im sure capable directors like "Neil Blomkamp,Joseph kosinsky and Carl erik rinch" are our future lovly directors, and Fincher going his path to NEVERLAND.im really sorry, because he was an idol for young film makers and now he is going to another way.i hope he notice to his fans, because they love him just like me.David Please dont forget your fans. i hope to see another masterpiece just like "Fight club and Alien3" again.

Skywalker on Jul 30, 2010

But you can agree #22, Benjamin Button didn't have a happy ending. Watching a baby die in the arms of a motherly figure is horrifying to any audience, especially those in the audience who are parents. One friend of mine who has 3 boys (and ironically loves horror flicks) said the end of BB was one of the most troublesome things he's seen on screen. Of course, being a parent, he'd feel that. Point is: Not a happy ending. I don't believe there's a pattern. Social Network will be a great modern day character study about greed. Even Fincher's less popular film "The Game" was still better than many directors finest pieces of work. Fincher and the word "Failure" don't belong in the same sentence. If you believe in him, you'll believe in this as part of his total body of great work.

ModernAmericanMan on Jul 30, 2010

We should give the movie a chance, David Fincher has not failed us in any of his films. Lets not forget that he made great movies such as SEVEN, ZODIA, FIGHT CLUB AND THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. this movie will be good or he will make it good.

Richard on Jul 30, 2010

At least its not a re-boot or a remake of an old movie. lets be thankfull that its a new story

Richard on Jul 30, 2010

Let's be happy that "Yahoo! 360°" is closed!!! Now singers (Justin Timberlake) and stupid teenagers are new artists for Mr Fincher's facebook movie! YEAH! bitch is back! (but not in another Alien Movie "of course"!!!!) what's ur idea about another American Pie (of course in 3D!!!!!) by fincher? "Game" is my favorite movie and also "BB".

Tibet on Jul 30, 2010

lol "new story" and no the point of that movie is not to tell a story its to make money in pure way, seven was about telling stroy, fight club was, even boring zodiac, but this? hey facebook is the most faemous thing next to google lets make movie so people that use facebook will go out and see it (still dont have idea what for)

gfdgd on Jul 30, 2010

#27. Stop getting it all wrong.

ryderup on Jul 31, 2010

#18 Telling people to STFU wont win you any arguments kiddo. Just because you are a fincher fanboy does not mean rest of us are and will swallow BS stories. I can also tell a very exciting story of a pimp on my ass. Does not mean it will make a good movie.
