Columbia Pictures has debuted the first official trailer on Moviefone for Gus Van Sant's new teenage drama Restless starring young actors Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper. The film has somewhat of an odd premise, almost a bit like Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, that dabbles a bit in the supernatural, with ghosts and things of that sort. It definitely still has the very teenage, indie Gus Van Sant feel to it (that some of you may love), but they're obviously trying to play this as a more mainstream flick. I guess I will say that looks like a wonderfully charming and emotionally riveting romantic drama, I'm curious to check it out. Watch it below!

Tells the story of a 16-year-old terminally ill girl (Mia Wasikowska) who falls for a boy (Henry Hopper) who likes to attend funerals and their encounters with the ghost of a Japanese kamikaze pilot from WWII.
Restless is directed by Oscar nominated American filmmaker Gus Van Sant, of Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, Elephant, Paranoid Park, Milk and many other films and music videos previously. The screenplay was written by first-time writer Jason Lew. Columbia Pictures and Imagine Entertainment are bringing Restless to theaters starting January 28th, 2011 early next year.

Gus Van Sant is a fantastic director with a good track record and only a few mishaps.

Perhaps its just the trailer and i'll probably end up giving Van Sant the benefit of the doubt ....but that looks bad. Such a lifetime channel feel to it.

@ #5 no,no,no,no,no. Gus Van Sant is a shit director that has occasionally stumbled into good film making. GERRY and PARANOID PARK are some of the worst films ever made. ...though, i liked this trailer. heh. Maybe there will be one more good GVS movie i like afer all... even though i did say to myself that i'll never watch another GVS movie after i watched PARANOID PARK. (and yeah, i already broke that rule by watching the very good MILK.)

Gus van Sant is an odd character. While I liked Finding Forrester and loved Good Will Hunting, I hated Elephant with a passion. I still think I might check this out though.

Thanks Alex I'd appreciate that. No I don't have the photo to click on. It's just white for some reason. I've had it once before on another trailer awhile ago but have been able to see others since then.

People can say whatever about Gus but he knows how to tell intimate stories.

Looks like a spin off of Extrodinary Measures in which the girl is a lot older and she no longer has Harrison Ford checking up on her. Didn't we see this supernatral idea done in Hereafter?

I will definitely be seeing this. Besides, right now Mia W. can do no wrong.
