You ready to be scared this morning? If not, you better make sure the lights are on and you've got someone nearby to defend you! MySpace has debuted the first full teaser trailer for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, the horror remake produced by Guillermo del Toro, directed by first-timer Troy Nixey, and starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and the young Bailee Madison. This is the same teaser footage straight from Hall H at Comic-Con and its a true teaser in the sense that we don't get to see a lot of footage, but we do get a glimpse at the world and it looks fantastic, like a true full-on horror production. I'm already very excited to see this!
Watch the first teaser trailer for Troy Nixey's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark movie:
Here's the basic synopsis: A young girl (Bailee Madison) sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was directed by up-and-coming filmmaker and comic book artist Troy Nixey, of only the Latchkey's Lament short previously. The script was co-written by Matthew Robbins (Dragonslayer, Mimic, The Concert) and Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth The Hobbit). This is a remake of the 1973 TV movie Don't Be Afraid of the Dark directed by John Newland starring Kim Darby. Miramax Films is bringing Don't Be Afraid of the Dark to theaters starting January 21st, 2011 early next year - stay tuned!

Mental Note: Do not watch trailers like these at work... especially when you don't have a change of underwear handy.

While I have complete respect for Del Toro's work and I'm sure the full film will be better, but that trailer was just a glorified "screamer" youtube video. There's nothing artistically respectful about a prolonged silence with a cheap scare at the end.

not bad, for a teaser. i've never heard of nixey, but it appears he's pushing the right buttons......loved the look of the house and the creatures, btw.

Why was del toro's name passed around like it was his project? that's shoddy. On the other hand, it sounded interesting until it started showing scenes from the movie. it looked like just any old horror flick. that's not to say the story doesn't have any backbone. Pearce is awesome.

Now this is what I call scary!

Wow, usually you hate horror films Alex so this one must have something really special to have impressed you so much. Latchkeys lament is really eerie and well made so I have high hopes for this as well.

I am a huge fan of both Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone. Del Toro has a way with horror films like no other. In both of the mentioned films, it is ultimately the people and society that are to be feared, not the "monsters." Fingers crossed for another go around.

Looks really stylish.! we'll see how it turns out. Del Toro has been attached to so many project recently that it makes me wonder just how involved he is? Looks like he's just attaching his name to this movie for better marketing.. don't know.. just a feeling. Hope it turns out good, I really like his work.

As Mr. Del Toro said in a recent interview...."this scared the Hell out of me as a kid, and has stayed with me." I remember the orginal a made for TV movie in 1973. The ending was great. Mr. Del Toro does it again!

That looks interesting. And #6, piss off with your "artfully respectful", don't look for it in a scream flick and you'll have nothing to complain about.

GdT is mean. Trying to scare a generation of kids. Do you think kids will be into this or just the usual horror junkies?

This looks like a very solid horror flick, also looks like its not using gore as its crutch.

Cool Trailer! I was just thinkin I could use a good horror film. Del Toro has brought some amazing characters to the big screen and Pearce is the man. This sounds very promising.

It was pretty meh till the last shot and even that looked like some pretty bad CG. Will reserve judgement till I see final trailer.

That beginning was kind of stupid, trying to hard with the voice BUT that ending... AMAZING!!! Suspense is what is missing from horror movies these days.

It looks like Nixey definitely was influenced by Robbins and del Toro in his directing and with the flavor of creating comics added to mix, it looks amazing. I will definitely go see this.

The original TV movie freaked me out as a kid, although I watched it again last year and it was VERY cheesy. This reboot looks like a great change up to the original. Can't wait!!!

Are You Afraid of the Dark is still scary to my 26 year old self! For a second, I did think it said "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and got really excited. Still, looks good

Horror movies that are just ".....BOO!" are not interesting as it can possibly get...

The movie clearly isn't just "...BOO" did you see those images? The production design alone is extremely disturbing.
