Watch This: Another Awesome Trailer for The Last Airbender
by Alex Billington
March 24, 2010
I don't deserve their praise. You will. Another new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender has been discovered online (via YouTube) that you can watch below (it's only low res for now). It's basically a newer version of the first trailer that debuted back in February. However, there are quite a few new scenes in this which will definitely excite fans of the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon series. I think this is the first time we've ever heard Aang's voice (played by newcomer Noah Ringer) and it's also the first time we see him using that flying contraption from the show. I'm still pretty damn excited for this movie. Watch & enjoy!
Watch the second new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender:
The Last Airbender is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, Lady in the Water, and The Happening previously. The screenplay was also written by M. Night Shyamalan while the story was co-written by Shyamalan and creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino. This is based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender that originally aired in 2005. Paramount is bringing The Last Airbender to theaters everywhere starting on July 2nd this summer.

Looks good. But so far, that's not Aang character. Aang talks alot, & is a funny kid. They should show that. & I really want to see Appa and Momo!

i can't wait until this movie comes out. I just watched the sixth sense last night and i still have to say that m. night is one of my favorites for all time. except for the fact that he tries to put himself in all his movies and the fact that he made the happening. Im super stoked for this though hopefully its good.
eric on Mar 24, 2010
Awesome. One of the few action movies I am looking forward to coming out.

Still looks average.

Completely agree #1 Appa and Momo need to be in the movie and the movie better be funny, because i recall watching the show and laughing a lot, but i just don't no if M. Knight Shyamalan can pull it off... Does anybody think he can pull it off? Alex?

When my kids were first watching the cartoon on Nickelodeon I thought it was going to be another "stupid" cartoon. Damn, I was wrong. Avatar was not only one of the top written cartoons - it was one of the best written show on TV. The whole show was an epic story with excellent characters. I would highly recommend you to watch the show's reruns or on Netflix if you've never seen it. From what I've seen so far M. is trying to keep the overall look of the show which I like. I'm assuming that the movie will just stick to the first season only which is a book all onto itself. I just hope that the story's size is not to epic for a 2hr movie.
DanOhh on Mar 24, 2010
*Sigh* I want to bend the air.
Brandon on Mar 24, 2010
Epic trailer....but a good trailer can make the shittiest of movies look good and taking M nights latest track record into account Im not getting my hopes up. I mean Im not gonna even explain the happenings shittyness but did anyone see the disaster that was the village?
Cody w on Mar 24, 2010
All I hear is hate on Facebook. I already think the cartoon sucks but people that like that hate the seriousness of this movie. I still don't get The Happening hate? It was awesome! People died oddly and I generally laughed throughout, what's to hate? What were you expecting, it's M Night. Probably his best film next to Sixth Sense. Unbreakable was good till the ending. I always turn it off before the las few minutes.

Oh, dear. Aang's voice sounds all wrong.
equustel on Mar 24, 2010
I don't understand why people think that the voices are going to be the same as in the cartoon lol but it looks awesome i'll defiantly be seeing this
Duck on Mar 24, 2010
The Happening was awesome?? Ban him!!
Crump's Brother on Mar 24, 2010
The Happening was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. M night has been going downhill since Unbreakable. This looks decent but doesn't reflect the character in the cartoon.
Maligrim on Mar 24, 2010
the happening was a comedy to me, i mean really, wtf. if that sh*t actually happened in real life, i'd lol and be like "really? this is 'happening'?, ok, giggle, u can take me" ....but this looks pretty good. then again like previously stated, good trailers don't make good movies.
lego on Mar 24, 2010
This looks good. This looks really good.
cintilla on Mar 24, 2010
EPIC, truly EPIC, & we got to see more, hear more talking, & FINALLY hear Aang talk! Still waiting on Zuko!

Avatar IS a favorite of mine. Even after I've watched countless animes and cartoons, it still remains in my top list so like I said in my blog, if Shyamalan would fail to deliver how the story was like in the series, he would definitely ignite the wrath of many Avatar fans. people might get confuse that die-hard fans of the series would still call the movie Avatar and not The Last Airbender, and others might confuse this from Cameron's latest film: I would still say, the series Avatar should have had the right. But anyway doesnt matter. What ticks me off actually is the differences of the characters here in the movie... I love the trailer, it got me really excited, but it still does not diminishes the fact that I do not approve of the casting choices (I still demand an explanation how come eskimo-inspired characters suddenly became white people, and the obviously chinese character to an indian looking Zuko in the movie). I am not being objective on the race issue, its just that the story was not followed, and maybe perhaps I am just being a stickler to the characters of the series and how each nation contributed to the better good. That is why I set that aside, the question of casting and now looks forward how Shyamalan created the whole story. He really should deliver and not make this into another over-rated film cos lots of people are now anticipating to see this And yes I would have to agree to people here that it does look serious - Avatar series is a funny but action packed and had me always laughing - i never get tired of watching it (like I've seen it now for more than 5 times!) So I just hope that this promising trailer would exceed people's expectation, and that it would do justice to what Avatar is all about - and just the cinematography effects it very well deserves.
Nienna on Mar 24, 2010
And yeah, I didnt like The Happening either. I like almost all that he did, but the only thing I like about that movie is that Zooey Deschanel starred in it. but to rate all of his movie: best of 'em all: the Sixth Sense Signs the so-so category: The Village Lady in the Water yikes: The Happening Unbreakable I want to watch however two of his first films.
Nienna on Mar 24, 2010
he did use the flying contraption in the first trailer....theres only an extra scene shown where he picks it up....
HellBoy on Mar 24, 2010
I am a really really avid fanboy of the show... so 2 things... Looks too serious, looks like he took out all the nuttiness of Aang, Sokka, and Katara's characters respectively... will reserve more comments till I see Apa and Momo!!
Deboo on Mar 24, 2010
@18 I thought unbreakable was amazing. Signs was shit imo.
meatcarnage on Mar 24, 2010
It does look too serious, but i guess time will tell.. I just hope they get Toph, the earth bender chick right.. She was by far the best fighter of the lot, apart from Aang goes hardcore..
MiKa on Mar 24, 2010
meh. i won't be going to the theatre to see this. i love fantasy - but this is a little too cheesy for me. and i'm not familiar with the cartoon. will someone explain to me what that "UPS box label "on the kids forehead means? and why does it glow?
beavis on Mar 25, 2010
As a massive fan of the series I can't wait for this movie and the sequels, I think ths trailer shows exactly what I needed to see and that is that the action is going to be just as amazing as it was in the show! Would you rather watch the trailer and laugh then find out the film actually has amazing action? or watch the trailer and see amazing action then find out the film is funny? I know I'd be pissed if the trailer made it look like a comedy (like prince of persia). The comedy in the show was important and I hope it comes across in the movie but I'd gladly pass on Toph calling Aang twinkle toes if the story was properly put across, as for Appa and Momo? If done right they will look immense (like LOTR creatures) if done wrong they will look ridiculous. Just my opinions of course Go Team Aang!
Scott on Mar 25, 2010
is this like a serious version of the cartoon? no complaints if it is still looks awsome so far just hope there's still some comedy left in it.
riley on Mar 25, 2010
This actually doesn't look too bad, did anyone else think the end to the village was awesome?
Jack Package on Mar 25, 2010
Movies are tricky; especially when it comes to taking 20+ 25 min episodes, and rolling them into one 2 hour film. Being a whole different medium some things may get lost in the process. I just hate it when they are major things (like important plot points, that give you important information and understanding about the characters. The Harry Potter films are a prime example of this; and are horrible because of it) As long as you go into the movie with this in mind; you will no doubt enjoy it.
nightrogen on Mar 25, 2010
Yes, I'm back!loll! What's is it all about? There is nothing really different from the other trailers...only like 5% new stuff including Aang voice and Zuko exercising his powers aamong others. Speaking of "5"...#5: of course, Appa and momo are in it...check the Superbowl TV spot 0:07s. top left, you can see the glorious Appa moving aroung like he should with his beaver like tail...even the arrow on his head is visible. What I expect is his noise to be the same...that's a legend right here! Momo is like a comic relief, so of course, it doesn't make much sense to include him in the earlier stages #10: I feel ya, it is just some of the misses of the movie Another 5, #25...and #20: You said it right, there is comedy and there should be plenty of it as I pointed it above. So far there are been some disappointment but yes, the bulk of it is true to the animated version and looking forward to view it in an advanced screening loll!
I am... on Mar 25, 2010
#29: you are a true movie fan, I bow, you should be in the industry... Thanks G, I didn't waste time reading the books when I heard that they were making the Potter movies. Speaking of Harry Potter, the comparison can be made here as well as I said before: Whatever HP did for paganism, magick and all the rest, The Last Airbender will do for Hinduism and Buddhism and so much the better... If people want to get more out of this movie(or should I say those movies as it is meant to be a trilogy), they should get acquainted with the 2 philosophies above mentioned and watch the animated series.

He sees dead people.
Brian Ricci on Mar 25, 2010
I'm pretty sure Paramount isn't trying to sell this movie as a comedy, so let's all just calm down and wait to the movie is released before we put our "stamp of approval" on this.... M. Night is in a tough situation with his career because he started off so bad ass with The Sixth Sense and then gradually kept riding his own "creative train" to make movies that were less and less affective as thrillers...all his movies had great concepts, but weren't done well...not to take away anything from the guy, because he is a good director... I'm all for this movie and it looks promissing...
Winston on Mar 25, 2010
Meh. Looks like a generic action movie to me.
Daniel on Mar 25, 2010
Sooooooooo where is Appa ???
NeoSlyfer on Mar 25, 2010
I just believe, the plot was flawless, the director had mistakes, but is a great director. Will be great. And i don't know why i'm feeling this katara will prevail in this. I'm in.
D. on Mar 25, 2010
Where's Appa and Momo? And I'm wondering... will this movie still have the comedic elements of the Avatar cartoon??
Lar on Mar 25, 2010
I think it looks pretty good. I actually like that it seems more serious than the show; I don't think a lot of the humor in the cartoon would translate well into live-action. My only problem is with how overwhelmingly white Katara and Sokka are.
Petra on Mar 25, 2010
I'm optimistic about this one. Loved the show, even as an adult. Caught a marathon one weekend and watched the entire series without blinking. #1 My hope is that Ang isnt too goofy and fun-loving because cartoon humor does not translate well to live action and it may come off as too "little kiddie." Cant wait though!
jomba joose on Mar 25, 2010
All it sounds and looks like a "CHEAP TRANSMORPHERS 1/4" movie..!!! CRAP... CRAP.. CRAP... CRAPITY.. CRAPITY .. CRAP.... HA HA HA ... LOL 😀

correct me if i'm wrong, i only watched one or two episodes but wasn't there a giant polar bear or something that the kid flew on?

i actually didn't enjoy this trailer. and #18 Unbreakable is one of the greatest super hero movies ever made.

#18 you are wrong, Unbreakable in one of his best movies.
Xerxex on Mar 25, 2010
with few exceptions, any movie with a child in the lead role will lose me from the get go...this one is different...the child actor in the lead role has an intensity that many adult actors would be lucky to achieve...this looks good enough to spend a few $$$ on ...
slopshoe smith on Mar 25, 2010
It's gonna be great, end of story.
Kris on Mar 25, 2010
You can see Appa in the superbowl tv spot. Just after the scene where the water tribe are holding their lanterns, look at the upper left corner and you can see Appa moving!!!

#1 I agree. Oh and for all you wondering what Appa's gonna look like....Behold. http://io9.com/5473482/stare-into-the-face-of-live+action-airbenders-appa not impressed...me neither. DEADPOOL 72 on Mar 27, 2010
I was a die hard fan of the show but part of me wants this movie to flop. What the hell were the creators (DiMartino & Konietzko) thinking when then jumped at the first proposal by a 2nd tier film maker in M. Knight? If they had held out and shopped Avatar around they could have gotten a much more deserving director to handle this epic tale.

I'm hoping so badly that this turns out well! It's definitely gonna be eye candy if the trailers are anything to go by. But the story and characters are way more important than that! Pleeeease, please, please Mr. Shyamalan don't mess this up! I want to see the other two books made too!

hi its me again .i just noticed something .why is this trailler so serious.i watch the series and it always has me laughing.aang looks too serious and so does saka.i dont think i even saw anyone smile in the trailer!another thing ive been wondering is why is zuko an indian and why are the eskimos white.im not trying to be racist or anything but it should have followed the series.one last thing is i can barely see zukos scar.it supposed to be the symbol that re minds him of the day he duled his father the fire lord and was burntand he was bannished and was forced to capture the avatar to regain his honour and return home.it has big meaning .anyway thats all i hav to say for now.
