When Rotten Tomatoes handed out their Golden Tomatoes for the best reviewed movies of the 2009, it was sad to see that the highest ranked movie for kids (that wasn't animated) was Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are at 73% with the pathetic Hotel for Dogs behind with a measly 46%. It's clear that kids & families alike are in dire need of some quality entertainment in the live action arena. So I'm pleased to present the first trailer (and poster) for the upcoming comedy adaptation The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a children's graphic novel by Jeff Kinney following the travails of wise-cracking middle school student Greg Heffley.

Live-action adaptation of Jeff Kinney's illustrated novel about a wise-cracking junior high school student.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is directed by former animation director Thor Freudenthal of a few older short films and Hotel for Dogs previously. The screenplay was co-written by Jackie Filgo & Jeff Filgo ("That '70s Show") and Jeff Judah & Gabe Sachs ("90210"). The film is based on the children's graphic novel by Jeff Kinney of the same name. This was produced by Fox 2000 and is being distributed by 20th Century Fox. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid will hit theaters on April 2nd this spring. So anyone interested in seeing this?

Wow. My daughter JUST introduced me to these books. They are really well done... and judging by the trailer it matches the books humor to a tee. Whether it gets well reviewed or not.. if my kid has anything to do with it.. im there......

As far as kids movies go, it certainly looks better than Hotel for Dogs.

No wonder children raid their parents gun cupboard and go postal on their classmates. I actually always enjoy highschool films, it's such a weird hierarchy with the jocks, the good looking cool kids, the fat dorks, the geeks and the new addition, the Indian kid, who is also a geek, replacing the Chinese/Korean/Japanese geek (bit part for comedic value). I think the reason a retarded man like Arnold Schwarzenegger can get to become governor and succeed is based on the model of the American High School, where steroids and tiny brains lead to success, unless you are gunned down by an emo in a trenchcoat. Just generalising. I'll watch when it comes on tv.

I thought it looked funny. Of all the crappy kids movies that have been out this last year or so, it looked entertaining. It made me chuckle. I like kids movies that can be enjoyable for me too.

I think the wrestling scene is hilarious! ...but I'm afraid this might be another Mall Cop. I let my friends talk me into going to that one and I hated it. The funny parts were already in the trailer, nothing else left in the movie. I want to see it, but I might just wait and catch it on my netflix one day.

The trailer for this movie is Hilarious! It is foolish to compare this movie to anything else. Looks like this is going to be very funny and an entertaining movie for both kids and adults. I think anyone who goes to see this movie is going to be surprised at how relatable and funny it is going to be. Should be one of the better films of 2010. Our whole family is looking forward to seeing this when it comes out on the Big Screen.
