Dinner for Schmucks Trailer

Paramount has finally debuted the first trailer for Austin Power director Jay Roach's new comedy Dinner for Schmucks which stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. They're also joined by a great supporting cast including Jemaine Clement, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, Ron Livingston and Lucy Punch. I first titled this "must watch" but after actually watching the trailer, I decided otherwise, simply because there's not much that makes me laugh nowadays and this definitely falls into that category. Why is Steve Carell the absolute dumbest idiot around? I didn't laugh once at this, sadly, because it actually had some potential.

Tim is a rising executive who finds the perfect guest, IRS employee Barry, for his boss's monthly event, a so-called "dinner for idiots," which offers advantages to the exec who shows up with the biggest buffoon.

Dinner for Schmucks is directed by Jay Roach, of all three Austin Powers movies as well as Mystery Alaska, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. The script was written by a lot of writers, including Andy Borowitz, Ken Daurio, David Guion, Michael Handelman, Cinco Paul, Francis Veber and Jon Vitti. Too many cooks in the kitchen, possibly? Paramount is bringing Dinner for Schmucks to theaters on July 23rd this summer.

it might have been funny if they showed Jemaine Clement in the trailer...

Well, as a great man once said, "You NEVER go full retard"...

McQueen85 on Apr 6, 2010

Zach Galifianakis. Sold enough.

Crapola on Apr 6, 2010

Zach is not going to be funny just cause he was uber-funny in The Hangover....this looks not pretty but extremely lame.

Deckter on Apr 6, 2010

Paul Rudd sold it, Steve Carrell made it awesome, and Zach Galifianakis and, I imagine, Jermaine will send it over the top. looks great!

Colt on Apr 6, 2010

This looks a lot like a remake of a French film called "Le dîner de cons."

jds17j on Apr 6, 2010

its a remake of the french version which was hilarious. this doesn't look like it will be nearly as good.

Tim on Apr 6, 2010

I love Paul Rudd. Steve is just playing Michael Scott with a bad haircut, but i like it. And overall the cast is great. I didn't LOL'ed, but i smiled during the trailer, particularly at the "imagine" joke and the "i can't move part". Looks fun, i'm in.

Ricardo on Apr 6, 2010

I like Paul Rudd a lot too, but this looks completely awful.

MikeL on Apr 6, 2010

Looks ok. I had high hopes for this, but I didn't laugh ones.

okay Paul Rudd is unhateable. I'll see it.

Xerxex on Apr 6, 2010

I could deal without the girlfriend being on his case. Paul Rudd is funny as hell, so I'm in.

Sorta like a Dogfight, but instead of a ugly chick its some moron. Pretty good cast with Rudd, Carrell, Zach and Livingston.

People's Champ on Apr 6, 2010

Where was Jemaine Clement in that trailer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sharlto on Apr 6, 2010

I didn't laugh at all. I laugh at everything. This is dumb!

McQueen85's comment was the only thing that I have laughed at since following the link to this page.

Scrotie McBoogerballs on Apr 6, 2010

Really? Some guy quoting a shitty movie was funnier than the trailer for a comedy that shows at least a little bit of potential?

Tom on Apr 6, 2010

Yes, this is really a remake of "Le Dinner de cons". Next time, just do research 😉

Meeea on Apr 7, 2010

Le dîner de cons looks 10x better than this ever was. But that could also be because I saw that movie knowing nothing of the premise at all and really enjoyed it.

Luminaire on Apr 7, 2010

Paul Rudd AND Steve Carell? Yes please.

Ravster on Apr 7, 2010

Steve should stick with the office. Rudd and Zach have that dry sense of humor that Iove. I saw Zack on conan a long time ago and then seen him off campus in a club and I've always liked him and as an actor even better. I would definitely see this. Go to the theater or rent it? Not sure yet I think I'll wait for it to come out then decide.

arjones on Apr 7, 2010

Zach Galifinakis is one of the funniest comedians of our time. His stand up is nothing short of amazing. That being said... this movie looks mediocre.

Syphous on Apr 7, 2010

Go look up "Between Two Ferns" with Zach Galifinakis.

Chad on Apr 7, 2010

"because there's not much that makes me laugh nowadays" ... I think that's more of a personal problem than a movie problem. The Jay Roach thing has me nervous but MAN I loves me some Paul Rudd, best reactions in hte business.

LODAA on Apr 7, 2010

I think the Schmucks won't be the ones at the dinner, but rather the unfortunate bastards in the theater watching. If you want to see Steve Carrell make a schmuck out of himself, you can do that for free every Thursday night. #8, "I didn't LOL'ed" violates the English language and the written word in just about every way possible. Nicely done.

DLM Entertainment on Apr 7, 2010

this looks funny as! really great cast and actually a different idea for once! Im going! Who's with me?

scotty on Apr 7, 2010

Alright the cast looks amazing. I generally love all of those actors. But not gonna lie, I didn't laugh once in this preview. I'll definitely give it a shot, but not full price.

DANtheMAN on Apr 7, 2010

@28, me!

pipo on Apr 7, 2010

seven fucking writers? really?

notes on Apr 8, 2010

looks like an american remake of the french film 'Un diner de cons' urgh

LaLa on Apr 8, 2010

#32 LaLa - Hit it on the nose. I'll stick with the original on this one.

Johnny Neat on Apr 8, 2010

#27, hey, i'm so, so sorry for making this one mistake in the one language you know. I feel horrible right know. My mother is crying in the corner, just blaming herself for not being able to raise me. What have i done!? Please, don't take so personally my next mistake, typo, whatever. PS: oh, and i don't care

Ricardo on Apr 9, 2010

it is a remake of the french version and the french version is probably funnier than this is gonna be, but still going to see it

chinochubby on Apr 11, 2010
