A Somewhat Gentle Man Trailer

Time to take a quick European break. Strand Releasing recently debuted an official US trailer over on Apple for the upcoming release of Norwegian film A Somewhat Gentle Man, a "dark feel good comedy" starring Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia!) as an aging gangster fresh out of jail, reluctant to return to the outside world. This looks like a whole lot of Scandinavian gangster fun, I'm curious to see it. The film played at the Berlin Film Festival and at Fantastic Fest in Austin a few months ago, where FSR's Rob Hunter praised it as being an "unassuming and surprising piece of entertainment." Watch the official trailer below!

Ulrik is a somewhat gentle man, as far as gangsters go, and was just let out of prison after doing 12 years.

A Somewhat Gentle Man is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Hans Petter Moland, described as "the Ridley Scott of Norway," of Aberdeen, United We Stand, The Beautiful Country and Comrade Pedersen previously. The screenplay was written by Danish writer Kim Fupz Aakeson (Aftermath, Chinaman, To Love Someone, Dancers, Little Soldier). This first premiered at Berlin Film Festival, where it won the Berliner Morgenpost award. Strand Releasing is bringing A Somewhat Gentle Man to limited theaters starting on January 14th.

I have seen this fim at Berlin Film Fest and it is certainly worth watching - a gangster move with a flavor of Aki Kaurismäki's dry humor

Saw this at Fantastic fest and couldn't stop laughing. Reminded me of Fargo.

Can't believe that even though Stellan Skarsgård was in Good Will Hunting, the film bracketed that he has been in is Mamma Mia!!!!!

^ That's just one of his more recent movies, not necessarily representative of anything good or bad. We know he has been in plenty of MUCH better stuff, don't worry. 🙂
