Industrial Light & Magic: Creating The Impossible

I really don't think the legendary Industrial Light & Magic needs an introduction, but I might give them a quick one anyway. From Star Wars to Jurassic Park to Transformers, ILM is one the leading visual effects companies that has been paving the way in the effects industry since first opening some 35 years ago. We're breaking our rules again to bring you a trailer (via SlashFilm) for a documentary that Starz channel Encore will be airing later this weekend, on Sunday, November 14th. The doc tells the inside story behind how ILM first began and the people that made it possible, from George Lucas to Steven Spielberg. Check it out below!

Watch the official trailer for Encore's Industrial Light & Magic: Creating The Impossible:

From director Leslie Iwerks, of the wonderful Pixar doc The Pixar Story, and narrated by Tom Cruise, Industrial Light & Magic: Creating The Impossible takes audiences behind the scenes at ILM with in depth interviews with some of the company's top talent and also showcases never before seen footage highlighting many of their pioneering milestones. From creating the first ever computer generated character in a feature film to the latest advancements in visual effects for film franchises like Transformers and Iron Man, ILM has created some of the most memorable movie moments in recent history. I can't wait to see this, it looks fantastic! The doc premieres on Sunday, November 14th at 8PM and will probably hit DVD early next year.

Cool! But they should avoid showing stuff from Star Wars Ep 1-3. Alot in those movies looked bad.

Whenever they show Jurassic Park on tv I am still amazed by how well the CGI holds up after all these years. I better set my DVR for I have a terrible memory. This will be great!

George Lucas, please shut up. "ILM was born out of a rebirth of the beginning of cinema." What a pain to listen to!

For as instrumental and beneficial to the film industry, ILM still couldn't keep the SW prequels from being train wrecks:P

Hate Lucas all u want but he started his own Empire from star wars, the guy is a genious and ep 4-6 more than makes up for his other shortcomings. The man revolutionized effects. Spieelberg is awesome but with all his good movies none of them to me hit the mark like Star wars. Just my opinion

From the post's last paragraph: "...The doc premieres on Sunday, November 14th at 8PM and will probably hit DVD early next year." Then why does the end of clip say it premieres, on November 12th?

I agree christ5g, not to mention how most fx involved movies since 77 have benefited so much from Lucas born inventions!

Love ILM; I still prefer their model and matte work from the 1980s best. Does this doco mention how their original groundbreaking art was erased in the SW "special editions", and in movies like E.T.? Probably not.

I love stuff like this. Working in the industry myself, when ever the folks who work behind the scenes get their own special, it makes me smile 🙂
