WB's Green Lantern & Sucker Punch Both Set to Show in 3D
So now Warner Brothers is going 3D crazy? I guess they're more than satisfied with the way Clash of the Titans turned out in 3D. Our friends at Box Office Mojo (via SlashFilm) updated their release schedule with new listings for five upcoming WB movies that will now be going 3D. The obvious two are the final Harry Potter movies, which we expected to be shown in 3D anyway. They also mention Legend of the Guardians, which we just debuted a teaser for, and also expected to see in 3D. However, I was not expecting these last two - DC's Green Lantern and Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, both of which will be shown in 3D as well.
To be honest, this isn't all that surprising, but it could be considered exciting. We already know Hollywood is going 3D crazy, it just took a little while for Warner Brothers to join in. But now that they have, they've decided to go ahead and convert the five or so biggest upcoming movies to 3D (give or take Chris Nolan's Inception, because he can do whatever he wants). Unfortunately, I think WB is going to be converting most of these movies to 3D in post-production and not shooting any of them in 3D from the start. Soon that kind of decision will backfire on some studio and (hopefully) cause them to shoot 3D the way it should be shot.
Martin Campbell (seen in the photo above) is directing Green Lantern, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Blake Lively, and Tim Robbins. Shooting begins later this month and WB has set a June 17th, 2011 summer release next year. Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch has already finished shooting and is currently slated for release in the usual Zack Snyder spring release spot on March 25th, 2011 next year as well. Stay tuned for more updates on both movies! Which one are you most excited to see in 3D?
Update: For anyone who was doubting this, the news has been confirmed by THR. They don't say anything else or confirm that these will be converted in post to 3D, but it is official - both films will hit theaters in 3D!

Oddly enough I'd rather see Sucker Punch in 3D, it sounds like it's going to be a kind of a trippy movie and if converted right, it could be rather interesting. But if I had the choice I would have shot it in 3D while making it rather than convert later. But at least they have more time to work on it. Rather than how they're pushing Clash of the Titans out in 3D when it seems like they've only had like a month to convert it.

LOL.......What else is hollywood going to put in 3-D? Maybe they will do a reboot of smokey and the bandit and make it 3-D as well. Please Hollywood, this too has to stop

I'm rather ticked I can't see Alice this weekend in 2D. Playing at two theaters near me, in 3D only. Costs $2.50 extra for no good reason. Hey Hollywood, these films aren't Avatar! Stop this madness, I don't want to wear glasses to see every movie. I already wear glasses to see stuff. Don't want another pair on top of that to see 3D stuff. When will we hear about some rom-com in 3D? If 3D is so great then we need Godfather, Citizen Kane and Jaws in 3D, wait there was a 3D Jaws I think.

Sucker Punch given any day I will watch it in 3d because Zack Snyder has amazing style and I love his all Films and it is good kick ass action movie from what I have heard .So 3d or 2d I don't care if the movies story is I would rather watch it in any format and 3d is only a enhancer in the scene not the story of the movie .

Green Lantern could be good once they dont put all the effort into the 3d at the expense of a well told story. The same could be said for any sci fi movie i suppose. Avatar was impressive to watch but i'll be disgusted if it gets best picture. The acting and story were no where near oscar standard

Well, the effects for GL's ring constructs could look cool in 3D. I don't know much about how different it is to film a movie in 2D, then convert it to 3D for release, as opposed to filming in 3D from the start. It seems logical, though, that a movie conceived, planned and executed in a certain way is going to be better than one that was changed quickly to take advantage of a current trend. Not all movies should be in 3D. We'll see how this works out. Look at the backlash that is already happening. Many will jump on that bandwagon just because it's the new bandwagon on which to jump, especially in internet forums.

Given the fact that I was more impressed with Coraline in 3D than I was with Avatar, I'm done with it. As long as it's dome in 2D, I could care less.
