AWARDS
2012 Golden Globes Nominees - The Artist, Paris, Descendants & Help
by Alex Billington
December 15, 2011
The list of nominations for the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, the yearly precursor to the Academy Awards, have just been announced - you can find all film nominees below. The infamous Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees this morning from The Beverly Hilton. Their nominees this year are a bit unusual, but almost exactly what you'd expect from the HFPA. The top nominees are The Artist, The Descendants and Midnight in Paris, hence my headline. I'm also happy to see Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Albert Brooks (from Drive!) all getting deserved noms, too. Full list below!
The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, January 15th, 2012 at The Beverly Hilton hosted by Ricky Gervais with a live telecast airing on NBC. Read on for the full list of 2012 nominees.

There are some very interesting picks in the nominees this year, which isn't unexpected for the HFPA, but I'm still surprised to see films like The Help and Midnight in Paris getting so much recognition this season. A taste of things to come with the Oscars? Or just another politically influenced awards show with more mainstream choices? What do you make of the 2012 Golden Globes nominations?

I was surprised that Ides of March got so much recognition and Drive didn't get as much. But Ides of March was a fantastic acted movie. VERY surprised to see Midnight in Paris for directing and Drive not getting that nom. I feel like Winding Refn should've easily been nominated. But I think the Oscars will recognize the underdogs a little more with their choices and will surprise us even more.

these awards are always a joke, the foreign press is corrupt and they are always politically influenced in there choices, I mean did they still really pick Avatar over The Hurt Locker...

The lack of love for Drive is super depressing. The Help? Really? Those television noms are a joke too. I don't know why I pay attention to awards season. I'm usually let down.

Kind of disappointing that Elizabeth Olsen didn't get a nomination for Martha Marcy May Marlene. Thought she would've gotten the recognition.

I've never really cared much before about the Globes, and now I see why. I usually just check in on the winners and don't bother with the noms. At least Fassbender got his nom. That's one thing I wanted. Now, although I don't know most of these performances to judge them, I don't want there to be any awards for a past project or to award them for the body of work, versus the best of the chosen performances. But really... I'm just asking too much with that aren't I?
