The 64th Cannes Film Festival official selection was just announced this morning. A total of 49 films this year are featured in four categories: Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition and Special Screenings (including those Midnight Screenings). The festival kicks off on May 11th next month and lasts for 11 days until May 22nd. I will be attending for my third straight year in a row and I cannot wait to be in France! It was previously announced that Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris would be opening the fest, but there's plenty of other treats like The Tree of Life, Drive and We Need To Talk About Kevin. Wow, this really looks like an amazing line-up this year, I am unbelievably excited. I had a feeling it might be a really fantastic year! Though I should be careful, because last year I had high hopes and I was let down, but this really does look like everything I wanted to see at Cannes and more. I will be traveling out and staying with my good friends Eric Lavallee of IONCinema.com and Yama Rahimi, who have been my Cannes fest roommates for the past two years anyway. And damn have we had great times! I'm very much looking forward to seeing some great films in France next month. What do you guys think of this year's picks?

The Tree of Life!!! Boy I have a feeling this movie will be a letdown. Too much hype going into this film. Called it first right here. Tree of Life a letdown movie! Floating at a 70% on the Tomatometer. You can tar and feather me if I am wrong when this comes out 🙂 But I'm pretty confident! A most outstanding trailer will fall flat in the full movie 🙁

The Skin That I Inhabit seems so fascinating to me. Can't wait to hear how some of these films turn out. The In Competition line up this year has some incredible talent.
