Andrew Garfield Cast in Adaptation of Tawni O'Dell's 'Back Roads'

One of our favorite actors right now is Andrew Garfield, who sadly didn't receive an Oscar nom when he should have (for The Social Network), but is playing Peter frickin' Parker anyway, so it really doesn't matter. Variety reports that Garfield has been cast in an adaptation of Tawni O'Dell's bestselling novel Back Roads that Infinity Media is developing. Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Jacob's Ladder, Unfaithful) is directing from a script he co-wrote with O'Dell. Beyond only Garfield, this Pennsylvania-set murder mystery will also star Jennifer Garner and Marcia Gay Harden. Quite a cast they've got for this. Shooting starts in June.
In Back Roads, Garfield will play a young man forced to care for his three younger sisters after their mother is sent to prison for killing her abusive husband. Garner will play one of the family's neighbors who becomes romantically involved with the Garfield, while Harden will play his court-appointed therapist. The two other female roles are being filled with "high-profile young actresses" but casting isn't finalized on those yet. I'm not familiar with the book, but it did make Oprah's Book Club back in 2000, so it's probably very good. I just hope this isn't a boring dramatic indie that goes to a festival an doesn't impress anyone, but Garfield, Garner and Gay Harden, it's definitely going to get some attention. We'll be keeping our eye on this. Sound good?
the book is very good, well worth the read. it's one i hold pretty close so i have pretty high expectations for the movie. love Harden, not sure how i feel about Garner and Garfield. if Kristen Stewert is cast in the movie i will punch someone...
