With The Lone Ranger is back on track with Armie Hammer still on board to play the titular character along with Johnny Depp as Tonto, its clear that The Social Network and J. Edgar star will be quite busy over the next couple years as Deadline reports yet another project for the actor. Hammer will take on a bit of a darker role in By Virtue Fall, the directorial debut of Up in the Air writer Sheldon Turner. The film follows an ATF agent (Hammer) framed for corruption and sentenced to time in a maximum security federal prison. But prison turns him hard, and upon release, he seeks revenge on the man who put him there.
The man responsible for his imprisonment? It's the agent's former partner played by Eric Bana. This will be the first role that will see Hammer not needing to look handsome and relatively charming with a dark turn as a prison bad-ass, so this should really test his range. Apparently he'll be bulking up quite a bit and will completely shave his head for the role. The film is slated to begin production after The Lone Ranger wraps next summer, so we'll probably see this film show up sometime late in 2013, or maybe even earlier in 2014. Hopefully by then Hammer won't have been hit too hard for his silly-looking turn in Mirror, Mirror.
