Atrocious Official Trailer for Death Match Film 'Arena' with Kellan Lutz

Last year you may remember hearing about a project called Deathsport (not related to the David Carradine classic), set to star Kellan Lutz as some "modern gladiator" and Samuel L. Jackson as the evil overlord making sure the battles are broadcast "for the entertainment of the online masses." Well it's finally here, thanks to YouTube (via Movieline) we have the first trailer for Arena, the new title for a film that might as well already be called one of the worst of the year. Remember how much you laughed watching Sam Jackson in Frank Miller's The Spirit? This is even worse. I suggest staying away, but you might have fun watching it.
Watch the newest official trailer for Jonah Loop's Arena, embedded via YouTube:
"There's no greater battle than the fight for your life." David Lord (Kellan Lutz) is forced into the savage world of a modern gladiator arena, where men fight to the death for entertainment of the online masses.
Arena is directed by first-time director Jonah Loop, a former visual effects supervisor making his feature debut. The script was written by Tony Giglio, based on an original screenplay by Michael Hultquist & Robert Martinez. This was produced by Motion Picture Corporation of America and shot down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana last year. As of right now, we have no idea when this is going to be released, if at all, and I'm honestly not sure if we really care to hear about when it will hit theaters anyway. Looks fun, doesn't it?

I guess when cookie-cutter, trashy action movies like Death Race or Gamer start to become the norm, you can set the bar even lower and still come out with a money-maker. What was the budget on this, Samuel Jackson's paycheck plus $50,000? Haha I mean honestly, a million in $5 rack DVD sales worldwide over the next few years will put this movie in the black, so why should they try any harder? Unless we demand it of them...

Sam Jackson should just stick with milking the Nick Fury cash cow for now.

I just bet this film will surprise you. The word on the street (from the people that have actually reviewed it) is that this film will be a big hit. So just be careful on your initial thoughts. You just may be eating crow...

How can "Arena" be a big hit? This film is already set to direct-to-DVD on 10/11/2011.

Talk about judging a book by it's cover! I personally think this film looks visually stunning, and the premise is very intriguing. I'll keep an open mind...

Reminded me a bit of Running Man, cgi and effects wise. The action was better than Running man though.

Sam Jackson seems to be taking every role offered to him, no matter what it is. JCVD's, "Assassination Games", looks more mainstream and theater friendly than this. The premise seems ok but the CGI looks amateurish, like a SyFy channel Saturday night premiere movie!

'Mike James' and 'Shandin Fisher' were clearly sent here to put in a good word for the film

Its pretty clear that the only question big Sam asks before taking a project is..."How much are you gonna pay me!?"

"Death Games" was the best they could come up with for the broadcast? Wow. Not cliche at all.

I'm guessing Jam Jackson has a friend who decided to make this movie and asked his friend Sam to be in it or something? That's the only explanation I can think of for his involvement. Either that or Sam Jackson owes a shitload of money to someone and had to pay it off like this.
