Author Stephen Elliott to Direct James Franco in Porn Story 'Cherry'

Back in September of 2010 we heard that James Franco had optioned The Adderall Diaries from author Stephen Elliott as a potential project for the actor to write direct and star in sometime down the road. Now the tables have turned slightly as Variety reports Elliott is now set to direct James Franco in an indie drama called Cherry. The story follows a troubled 18-year-old girl who moves to San Francisco where she enters the adult film industry and becomes involved with a cocaine-addicted lawyer, who will be played by Franco. Production is slated to start next month in San Francisco, and more are already attached to star.

The trade also reports Heather Graham (The Hangover), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) and Lili Taylor (High Fidelity) will also star in the film. Graham will be playing a former porn star turned director who becomes mildly obsessed with the hot young porn star (a role that has yet to be cast) while, Taylor will play the teen's alcoholic mother. Patel is playing the girl's best friend who's in love with her. As far as I can tell, I believe this will be Elliott's feature directorial debut, and the material certainly seems like it will be worth of a festival release sometime down the road. Interested?
