Ayelet Zurer Playing Superman's Kryptonian Mother in 'Man of Steel'
Back in June we had learned that Julia Ormond, who was most recently seen in the Emmy winning TV movie Temple Grandin and the Sundance selected The Music Never Stopped, had snagged the role of the Big Blue Boy Scout's Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van in Man of Steel. Well, while the film is in the middle of production, a last minute casting change has taken place as Deadline reports Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer, who has been seen in Angels & Demons and Munich, will star opposite Russell Crowe as Superman's birth mother. No reason has been given for the change, but Zurer starts filming this week.
Once again, it's important to note the wide array of talent that has come together for Zack Snyder's new take on Superman. In addition to the aforementioned talent for Superman's alien parents, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will be playing Clark Kent's adopted father and mother. Combine that with Michael Shannon playing General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as The Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White, you can tell that Snyder didn't just want the biggest names possible, but some truly impressive and interesting talents, to bring this project to life.

Ayelet Zurer is really stunning and very talented. She’s amazing. That woman is incredible. Good for her to keep landing such high profile roles. She deserves it. It’ll be an exquisite performance, just wonderful.
