'Best Worst Movie' Director to 'Destroy' Viewers with Dark Comedy
Though I wouldn't call being a child star in the awesomely bad 1990 horror flick Troll 2 that much of an achievement, actor Michael Stephenson put together an amazing documentary on the aforementioned film becoming a cult classic with Best Worst Movie. Now Stephenson is moving into narrative feature film territory with his next project Destroy. The dark comedy is set in a world where vampires don't exist but a makeshift vampire hunter is moving swiftly across Bavaria laying wooden stakes into hearts left and right. Little does he know that instead of keeping the world safe, he's just killing innocent old men in cold blood.
THR revealed the news today with Lindsay Stephenson producing via her and Michael's Magic Stone Productions. What's really great for this project though is Black Swan producer Jennifer Roth is also producing the project. It never hurts to have a Best Picture nominated producer behind your project. Hardcore film fans from Texas will also recognize another name behind the camera as Zack Carlson, programmer of Austin's Alamo Drafthouse Cinema co-wrote the script with Bryan Connolly. Carlson and Stepheneson apparently became good friends after a special Troll 2 screening at the Drafthouse. This project sounds like a lot of twisted fun, and we'll be looking forward to it with great anticipation. How about you?
