Last year, we heard that Imagine Entertainment had picked up a screenplay called The Originals from Bryce Dallas Howard and Dale Charbeneau. There may have been a little bit of nepotism involved since Ron Howard runs Imagine with Brian Grazer, but now the Howard daughter is truly stepping up to the plate for the project. Showbiz 411 (via Empire) talked with the actress who revealed she will be directing the film and also spoke a bit about the project. The story follows a group of twentysomethings who reunite in New York City after a beloved teacher falls into a coma. Ms. Howard calls it "a Breakfast Club for my generation."
As far as casting goes, no deals have been made yet but Howard did note that she wrote a part with Zoe Saldana in mind. Since she's an actress, there's a chance Ms. Howard may show up in the film herself as well. Of course directing your first feature is daunting enough without also starring in it. When the script was picked up by Imagine Entertainment, it was thought Ron Howard might take on the project, but kicking off the the directing career of his daughter is certainly interesting. As a big fan of the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club the comparison seems to be shooting for the moon, but I'm interested for now. How about you?
