'Captain America' Opening in San Diego on Thursday for Comic-Con

Every once in a while I see incredibly smart decisions that really show that some studios do care about fans. This is one of those times. Marvel/Paramount have announced that they'll be releasing Captain America: The First Avenger early, on Thursday, in San Diego only, giving the Comic-Con attendees a chance to see it before the weekend rolls in (and they camp out in Hall H all day for Spider-Man footage). The film will be playing exclusively in downtown San Diego at the UA Horton Plaza with showtimes all day starting at 12-Noon until 11:45PM. I'm pretty sure The Avengers teaser will play at the end of the credits all day, too.
It's truly rare I see smart decisions like this that break from the norm to bring the fans what they want. My first thought about opening Captain America during Comic-Con - what about all the comic book geeks who want to see it? Well, here's the answer. I love that they're doing this, it's awesome. In addition to being among the first to see the movie, all Captain America: The First Avenger ticketholders on Thursday will receive RealD 3D collector's red, white and blue Captain America glasses and a limited edition poster designed exclusively for the fans. We already gave away tickets on here for the very first 10AM screening, which is when Chris Evans is showing up to introduce the film, but there's plenty of opportunities to see it.
I might actually go see this movie again while I'm there! I loved it and I really want to catch a midnight show as well, but since I'll be in San Diego all week, why not just catch on of the Thursday screenings instead? If you missed out on nabbing one of our Comic-Con screening tickets yesterday, or just want to attend later in the day, tickets for this early San Diego Captain America opening are already on sale on Fandango and at the UA Horton Plaza movie theater (see Google Maps). For more info or to read the full press release on the announcement, jump to SuperHeroHype. Can't wait for this hit! We'll see you down in San Diego this week.

It's only one theater and it's the one in the Gaslamp Qtr. Probably the largest size theater is about 200 seats, with about 6-7 showings a day prior to opening day ( at $10 pop average tix price) It would equal about $12~15K give or take. I don't see how its a loss. It's actually good for the marketing. So if it's good word of mouth will travel quickly around the convention floor. It wont break records...think of it as pre marketing for the Avengers movie.

So Alex... Will everyone going to the afternoon shows at the UA get all the cool Cap limited stuff? That might be worth the drive from San Clemente if so.
