He gets a Casting Tidbits? He just got here, and he gets a Casting Tidbits? Where's my Casting Tidbts? Why didn't I get shot at? It's because, you… you… you think I'm no good at anything! Well, maybe you're right, thanks. First up, Variety reports Alan Tudyk (A Knight's Tale, "Firefly") has joined the cast of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's novel of the same name. Tudyk will play Stephen A. Douglas, the Northern Democratic Party candidate for president who ends up losing to Lincoln. Robin McLeavy also recent signed up to play Lincoln's mother in the twisted historical adaptation.
Second, H20 Motion Pictures has announced that Samuel L. Jackson will lead the neo noir thriller The Samaritan, a project formerly known as as Lie Down with the Darkness. David Weaver will direct the feature which follows Foley, a man who has just spent 20 years in prison and is ready to put his former life as a grifter behind him. When he falls for an elusive and troubled young woman named Iris, a new beginning seems within his reach. But his past is not ready to let him go. Ethan, the son of his former partner, has the perfect plan and he wants Foley in on it. The con used to be a gentleman’s game — but the rules have changed. Trying to start over, Foley lets his guard down, a luxury it turns out he cannot afford. The harder he tries to escape his past, the deeper he is ensnared in Ethan’s web of secrets and lies, until it is all too clear there can be no turning back.
Next, Deadline reports that Taylor Swift has joined the voice cast of The Lorax, the computer animated adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss book. The story sees a boy named Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) who learns from his grandmother (Betty White) about the now polluted world that was once riddled with beautiful Truffula trees until the Once-ler tore them down to turn them all into Thneeds, a thing which apparently everyone needs. Swift will voice Audrey, another character not in the book and Ted's love interest.
Finally, Deadline reports Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) has been offered one of the two male leads in Savages, an adaptation of the Don Winslow novel of the same name. Oliver Stone is directing the story about a love triangle between two marijuana growers and a beautiful young female accomplice. But things get complicated when drug cartel thugs kidnap the girl and hold her for ransom. Jennifer Lawrence was wanted for the female lead role, but her involvement with The Hunger Games has that up in the air now.
That's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits! Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way!
