Casting Tidbits: Ellen Page, Olga Kurylenko, Hugh Jackman & More
by Ethan Anderton
April 14, 2011
I went to one of those obedience places once. It was all going well until they spilled hot candle wax on my Casting Tidbits. First up, after just hearing that Alec Baldwin and possible Jesse Eisenberg would be joining Woody Allen's next untitled project shooting in Rome, Variety has confirmed both actors in the cast and revealed that Ellen Page (Juno, Whip It) and Penelope Cruz (Volver, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) have also joined the cast. Once again, we have no story details, but the ensemble casts for Allen's projects always bring together the most talented young actors and actresses with some of the greatest Hollywood veterans.
Second, Variety reports that Quantum of Solace Bond girl Olga Kurylenko and Liana Liberato (Trust) will join Aaron Eckhart in The Expatriate. The story follows a CIA agent assigned to track down her former CIA partner and lover (Eckhart). Liberato will play his daughter in the film from Philipp Stölzl who is directing from an original script by A.E. Amel. The project is already filming in Montreal.
Next, Heat Vision reports that Michael Stuhlbarg, the lead actor from A Serious Man and crime boss in "Boardwalk Empire" has landed a role in Men in Black 3. The actor will play a character called Griffin, a role that was originally supposed to be played by Sharlto Copley until the deal fizzled out. I think it's a safe bet to say the character will be some kind of alien, but how he fits into the 1969 time travel story with Will Smith and Josh Brolin (playing a young Tommy Lee Jones) remains to be seen.
Finally, some un-casting news for a couple projects has been revealed. First, The Wrap reports Hugh Jackman has passed on the titular lead male role in Snow White and the Huntsman after being offered the role last week. So now the hunt is on to find another big name to fill the huntsman's shoes. Also, Deadline reports Amy Adams won't be singing her heart out with Tom Cruise in Adam Shankman's big screen adaptation of Rock of Ages as was previously thought. Her recent casting as Lois Lane in Man of Steel complicated things. But the good news is Russell Brand is now officially confirmed for the musical.
That's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for even more casting news on the way!
