Simmons / Fraser / Ramirez

The tricky thing about Casting Tidbits is, that if you ever manage to process its raw, liquid form, you got to keep it that way, keep it hot. Because once the metal cools, it's indestructible. But you already know that. First up, a press release has revealed that J.K. Simmons, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Saldana, Ben Barnes, John Hannah (The Mummy) and Nora Arnezeder (Safe House) have joined the cast of The Words. In the film Bradley Cooper plays a writer who, at the peak of his literary success, discovers the price he must pay for stealing another man’s work. Jeremy Irons and Dennis Quaid also star in the film. More below!

Second, Variety reports Brendan Fraser, Craig Robinson and Matt Dillon will star in an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's crime novel Freaky Deaky. The story follows Chris Mankowski (Dillon), an LAPD bomb squad officer who stumbles upon a plot by two former hippie activists who plan to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars. Fraser is playing Skip Gibbs, one of the former activists who has parlayed his skills into a career as a Hollywood pyrotechnics artist and demolition expert. Meanwhile Robinson is playing Donnell Lewis, a former Black Panther turned capitalist who serves as assistant to William H. Macy (who was already cast back in September). Charles Matthau (son of Walter Matthau) is directing.

Finally, Variety reports Dania Ramirez (X-Men: The Last Stand) has been added to the cast of American Reunion. She will play Trisha, the ugly duckling nobody noticed in high school who has since grown into a beautiful swan and becomes the love interest of Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas). In this fourth installment of the sex comedy franchise, the entire original cast returns for their ten year high school reunion and rekindle friendships despite the time and distance that has come between them. Another report from Variety also says Chuck Hittinger ("Pretty Little Liars") has snagged a role as Marco, a jock and a bully who takes his girlfriend for granted.

That's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for even more casting news on the way.
