Channing Tatum & Writer Billy Ray Team Up for 'Peter Pan Begins'

Peter Pan

Last November we found out Swiss director Ben Hibon would be at the helm of a supernatural take on the classic literary character Peter Pan with the aptly titled thriller Pan. Now another take on the Neverland hero is in the works as an origin story called Peter Pan Begins starring Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra). Heat Vision reports the actor is attached to a pitch package being shopped around, but it's unclear what the story actually entails. However, it does sound like this will be a grittier take on the fairydust fueled flier with screenwriter Billy Ray (State of Play, Breach) behind the script for the project.

It seems like alternative takes on classic literary characters are all the rage, and I'm thankful they've replaced nostalgic toys as the hot intellectual property in the film industry right now. Producer Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) is behind the project. What makes a property like Peter Pan so great is that the story is in the public domain so no specific novel or comic book needs to be purchased for a new take on the story. For now the project is simply making the rounds to studios looking for a buyer, but stay tuned as this project develops. Interested?

Hope they drop the ridiculous name, could just be 'Peter' or something.

Yes... there are absolutely no problems taking a movie called, "Peter," seriously. And,"Pan," seems to already be taken... but to be serious, this is just a suggested project, it is unlikely that it's the real title.

tatum's acting seems more suitable for Pinocchio both made out of the same material WOOD

Yea ...... just looks horrible....... no reason to remake this movie and no reason to give it a stupid name like peterpan begins .. .wtf are they thinking? and channing tatum ? STOP HIRING THIS GUY. HIS ACTING IS HORRIBLE.

For one... Channing Tatum is NOT a good actor! what on earth is going on here. that is just absurd, he is a horrible choice. For two, Peter Pan is a child! im just absolutely astounded that this is for real, its ridiculous this is of course assuming that "starring" means he would be playing peter pan. if not, then, well i just sound dumb

Cha...Chan...Channing Tatum?!?!?!? I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now.

Ok... so girls like this guy... I can accept that...... but he just can't act... period! Let him start in mindless action/dance movies where he doesn't have to talk... but in a Peter Pan movie? No.....

I'm surprised they didn't consider Justin Beiber to play Peter Pan.... I'm really joking! But seriously Tatum is a bit too old and hunky for Peter Pan. If it's the beginning, it should be a younger boy and showing how he became Peter Pan and meet Tinker Bell for the first time.

They should probably look into the book series Peter and the StarCatchers...great story about the origin of how peter meets Hook, and all the details that follow...quite a good read.

Shit Tatum is perfect for Peter Pan! since they mostly cast women as peter Pan anyways.

Allow me to guess other titles they have in mind: The Peter Pan Chronicles The Rise of Peter Pan Peter Pan: Journey to Neverland Peter Pan Origins Peter Pan: The Beggining Seriously, Tatum is the last person on earth I would think of to play Peter Pan
