As a character actor, he's made some small but memorable appearances in films such as J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and one hell of a cameo alongside Thomas Jane in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Now Clifton Collins Jr. is bringing his talent to another high profile sci-fi project as Variety reports the actor has landed an unknown role Guillermo del Toro's ambitious and promising project Pacific Rim. The actor joins an interesting array of talent that includes Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelpha" funnyman Charlie Day. With the cast growing, it sounds like this project won't get slowed down.
Last we heard about the project, del Toro was gearing up for a 20 week shoot that was slated to start in November and the filmmaker says it will be "the biggest monster movie ever made." The film follows extraterrestrial creatures hellbent on destroying the Earth as humanity must band together to develop highly advanced, and weapon-ready robots to fight face the creatures. Therefore, a creature master like del Toro will have no trouble making good on his seemingly hyperbolic promise. Honestly, I'm just excited to get del Toro behind the camera again, but with a project of this scale and concept, well it's essentially a fanboy's dream come true.

He was wasted in Star Trek. As were Jennifer Morrison, Winona Ryder, Rachel Nichols and Diora Baird.

'small but memorable appearances?" C'mon! You forget Capote! Look at Clifton's body of work: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004286/

I agree Christopher, Clifton has a massive body of work! He can do it all, very versatile actor! Watch him in the movie "Extract", hilarious! Now as for this movie, I've heard that the creatures were not aliens, but Kaiju sized monsters?

Seriously Ethan, the "memorable roles" you list for most of your articles are aggravating. You either cater to 12-year-olds... or are one. One Eight Seven... seriously. He co-starred in one of the best "inner city high school" movies of all time.
