Comic-Con Video Blog: 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Footage Astounds

The Amazing Spider-Man

Our friendly neighborhood Spidey is returning to theaters next year, but will it be any good? Yesterday the most highly anticipated panel of the day was for Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. It was only a few days ago that we finally got the first teaser trailer, but they showed a new block of never-before-seen footage and revealed our first look at Rhys Ifans as the villain The Lizard. Following the panel, our own die-hard Spider-Man fan Brandon and blogger Ethan recorded a video blog talking about how all of the new footage impressed and amazed them.

Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, our hero Spider-Man, as well as Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Connors, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben Parker, Sally Field as Aunt May and Denis Leary as George Stacy. 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb is directing this new reboot of Spider-Man, from a screenplay co-written by Alvin Sargent (Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, 3), Steve Kloves (Harry Potter movies) and James Vanderbilt (The Rundown, Zodiac, The Losers). Sony Pictures is bringing Amazing Spider-Man to theaters next summer in 3D on July 3rd, 2012. Can't wait to see more!

Thank you both so much for discussing the clips and everything. I feel like this will provide more reassurance with the film now for the fans. It is disappointing that there are many fans still out there that are cracking on this movie and stating it won't live up to the others films or the franchise. Which is upsetting, because it truly looks fantastic from the photo stills, interviews, and teaser trailer seen so far. Also, Andrew Garfield is so committed to the role as well and you can just tell he's going to be amazing. But some people still aren't giving him a chance. Hopefully more people will get behind the movie though and give it a chance. This looks like it could be a great come-back for Spider-Man!

Completely agree Mercedes. While Raimi had some truly awesome moments with his run of the franchise (think Doc Oct on the hospital bed while his arms tore everyone apart), those movies all bleed together into one mish mash of over the top camp.  I would much rather have a faithful interpretation of my favorite childhood comic hero over the Batman and Robin of Marvel characters.

Some people just hate change.

The only thing good about the Rami films was Doc Ock. Everything else was so goddamn cheesy. I just got done reading my back issues of Amazing and Ultimate Spider-man, and I gotta say that Marc Webbs' version looks pretty impressive. I'm glad they are finally making a spidey film that represents the source material.

Ultimate Spiderman sucks and you are all suckers for being apologists of that frickin reboot Sony is trying to shove down your throats. I've already been told that story in 2002 and I'm not interested to waste 2 hours of my life watching that same freakin origin-story all over again. Hollywood basterds won, you dumbass got trapped by PA and Garfield's stunt. Did you seriously believe all that crapfest to draw fanboys into that piece of garbage? Did you believe all that dipsh*t called Marc Webb threw out to sell his moronic take of "emo-hipster Parker"? Oh yeah, Comic co Panel ravings paves the way to success...Remerber Kick-Ass? Suckers! If Spiderman is widely recognized and rewarded all over the world, critics and general audience, that's because of Raimi's Spiderman 1 & 2 which put Spidey on top of superheroes movies. Not that Marc Webb hack trying to emulate Nolan's style which is a complete non-sense. Spiderman is not Batman for God's sake! This is gonna blow hard, deal with it morons!

I wish you would have led with the "Marc Webb hack" comment since those three words instantly discount anything else you have to say. Would have saved me some time reading your ramblings. I was at the Sony panel at Con and it looks nothing like an emulation of Christopher Nolan. Not even remotely close. Try not to be so angry about movies. You'll be happier for it.

@Dashrendar44 who cares what you think?

I CAN'T WAIT!! I haven't heard ONE bad thing from anyone who saw the Comic-Con footage. That, and the fact that anything Spider-Man is awesome (especially when they have an awesome cast and follow the source material). 😀 Those people who hate on the reboot are just going to be even more blown away when they go into the theater. And don't tell me you won't see it! Because you know you will! 🙂 Even if you don't, I will, and I'll have a great night!Thank you!
