Cotillard & Gordon-Levitt's Roles in 'The Dark Knight Rises' Revealed
by Ethan Anderton
April 19, 2011
We've known for awhile now that both Inception stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt would reunite with director Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises. However, we haven't really been sure who they would play in the film. Rumors have been circulating, including one about Gordon-Levitt playing Alberto Falcone, but today a press release from Warner Bros. confirmed their casting and even reveals their roles in the anticipated blockbuster sequel. If you're worried about an overcrowded cast, it doesn't seem like the roles are very big, and talents like these are welcome in any film. More details below!
Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Meanwhile, Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. Nolan says, "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again." I'm certainly looking forward to seeing them and the rest of the cast in The Dark Knight Rises next summer. How's it looking?

How can you not believe it after The Dark Knight and Inception? Lets not forgot Memento, Batman Begins and others! Of course it's all subjective but I'm a believer 🙂

You got the order wrong. You should have said: How can you not believe it after Memento, Batman Begins and The Prestige?

I'd of put The Prestige first on the list but fair enough.

Wait....JGL is not playing Alberto Falcone aka The Holiday Killer??! Disappointed but makes sense we already have Bane and Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) we don't want the movie to be bloated with villains. But 'In Nolan We Trust'!

i like Nolan's approach to film-making, via the ensemble cast. i didn't mind Andy Serkis having only a small role in The Prestige, or Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins, or Pete Postlethwaite in Inception. all great actors, all small roles. i am sure some will be disappointed JGL is apparently not Albert Falcone, but it's ensuring the quality of the performance irrespective of the size of the role or the character. i think that's why i always feel immersed in the worlds Nolan creates.

Love Marion Cotillard, very attractive and sexy. French perfection doesn’t get much purer than her.

Wohooo!! Let me tell you, this will be an Anne Hathaway you’ve never seen, and she’s going to knock everyone’s socks off in The Dark Knight Rises! You are going to be so killed by her performance. I can’t tell you how good she is going to be as a strong, independent, sexy Catwoman. Oh, she is going to be so good in this. It’s unbelievable the performance she is going to give. It’s amazing. Hahah.. freakin’ fantastic, can’t wait! Man! I feel like a woman!

This is good news. I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make a good character actor like Geoffrey Lewis. He's talented and I think he does a great job in smaller and supporting roles. That's not to say he can't be a leading man, though. Brick and The Lookout were both well done on his part. But I keep thinking about his bit in Killshot.

Personally I'm glad they're not playing Strange and Thalia. The cast is already quite large and I was afraid the rogue's gallery would get to big. I can't wait until next summer!!!!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an amazing actor and will be a great addition to the Batman Franchise.

I kind of like that they'll play second fiddle. No small parts right?:P It'll keep it from getting "overcrowded" as you put it Ethan. Faith in Nolan...that is all:)

No Talia? No Falcone Jr? Why bother us with this trivial announcement? Still this news is far more exciting than any Green Lantern one has ever been.

Miranda Tate can still be turn out to be a moniker for Talia, the way Ducard was for Ras. Joseph Gordon Levitt is not that strong of an actor to me, so I couldnt really see him play a villain. Glad he's a cop instead.

if there is a flashback with ra's in the movie, talia is in it. there's no point in including the flashback, and talia's inclusion ties the films together. i would be shocked if the "miranda tate" role didn't end up being talia.

I was thinking the same thing and was going to post a similar comment. How fitting if she was Talia but was doing the same thing as her father by hiding her identity. Gary Oldman's comments a few weeks ago did say something about the story coming full circle. I guess we'll have to wait and see if that's how they tie it back to Batman Begins.

I meant to say there's no point to the flashback if talia isnt in it. Unless Liam Neeson shows up, and we know that's not happening.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt should have been cast as Robin. He would be my first cast pick for that role. I guess Robin is going to be MIA here too.
