Wow this a bold move. Deadline is confirming that Fox has scheduled sneak previews in over 800 theaters next weekend for Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo, his new family film adaptation of Benjamin Mee's memoir. The sneaks will take place on Saturday, November 26th on Thanksgiving weekend, one month before We Bought a Zoo regularly hits theaters on December 23rd. Fox must be very confident that they have a wonderful movie on their hands, and even Crowe is behind it. "I'm really excited about these sneaks. Holding previews so far ahead of our opening is a bold move – but that's one of the many reasons I like it."
Sneak previews a few weeks in advance aren't uncommon, but seeing something preview this far out, before even critics or anyone but test audiences have seen the film, is unprecedented, but also an incredibly strong move on Fox's part. Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo (watch the trailer) stars Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Elle Fanning, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit, Maggie Elizabeth Jones and John Michael Higgins, and also features a score by Sigur Ros' Jónsi, which you can preview a song from here. "Once in a while, we’re lucky enough to have a picture to which audiences of all kinds and all ages respond so strongly, that it demands a big and unexpected event. We Bought A Zoo is that kind of picture," says Fox's CMO Oren Aviv. "And Thanksgiving is a great time to share it via this special very early preview."
I'm anxious to see this movie not only for some great holiday entertainment, but to see if Cameron Crowe can still make an amazing movie, though I'm not worried at all. I'll definitely be out at these sneak previews myself. Expect there to be some solid buzz coming out of these, and if you miss them, you'll have to wait until late Christmas to finally catch up with it. Thanks to THR and Deadline for the details, check your local theater listings for information on the sneak previews next Saturday. Anyone else planning to see this?

Count me out, my money's been dedicated to The Muppets for that weekend for nearly a year. It seems like a paid-preview to just build buzz and may not even be the final cut. In my opinion, sneak previews should be free, or attached to another movie (you pay for).

Wait, it's a paid sneak preview? Screw that. Muppets with the family that weekend for sure. What, did Fox run out of ad money?

I wish they did that in Europe, I'd so watch that! The cast alone is worth the money, plus it's Cameron freakin' Crowe.
