While most of the updates for the long rumored and gestating sequel Ghostbusters 3 usually consist of the same rigmarole, this particular update adds a nice tidbit of information into the mix. While appearing on The Dennis Miller Show (via ComingSoon), franchise star Dan Aykroyd once again says, "Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope. We have an excellent script." This time around he also confirms the concept of handing the reigns of the spook hunting team down to some younger blood, but the bonus here is Aykroyd's mention of one actor he's interested in casting.

Aykroyd comments on the idea of the original Ghostbusters just not being able to cut it anymore saying:

"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the Cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs… Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

As for who they have in mind? None of the rumored names like Bill Hader or Anna Faris were mentioned, but Aykroyd did say, "I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the 'Criminal Minds' show. But there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it. We're going to need three guys and a young woman." Though I don't watch the show, I loved that guy in (500) Days of Summer and he has the right persona to be like the new Egon type of character. What do you think?

No. What? Wrong. Try again.

Yeah, like we need Shai LaBeouf to ruin yet another film series.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- Shia LaBeouf has not yet ruined a film series. That's not to say that he couldn't do so. He's not a particularly good actor and I certainly don't want to see him as a Ghostbuster.  But his involvement with the Transformers franchise and Indy 4 are not what make them terrible. They'd be just as terrible with a more capable actor in his stead, because they were all directed by morons.

Are you smoking rocks? Or just watching way too much CW and awful television shows? Those are all horrible horrible choices.

Take it easy on the poor dude, he/she must be a tween or in his/her early 20's and yes probably does watch too much CW.

I wish Dan Aykroyd would do more mainstream movies like he used to. We see far, far too little of him now. He should have joined the A-list years ago and even after all this time he is still underrated and underappreciated. So I hope he makes a big comeback, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.

It is amazing to me, how many airheads we have out there in this world. If anyone out there had been following Bill Murray online the past couple of years and had been paying attention, red flags would have been clearly seen. They have been waving everywhere! Do I know anything for sure by 100%? No, but what I do know is this: Bill Murray began suffering some kind of a health crisis last fall, carrying into winter past February, and I believe he has known for quite some time about something very serious that has happened with his health. Can anyone recognize literal sarchasm when they see it? Bill Murray said he’d only do 3 if were a ghost. Hey people, get a clue! He didn’t mean being cast as a ghost, he meant that by the time filming starts, he expects to be a ghost. That’s why he hasn’t committed to anything. Why would he, if he knew he wouldn’t be around long enough for filming to complete? In his mind, that'd knowingly break a commitment. I disagree with Bill Murray about a lot of things. Personally, I believe when it comes to judgement and decision making that all to often, he's had his head up his rear-end. I can honestly say though, that he is a professional and will not commit to a movie he doesn't plan on making. Also: Just for the record? Ghostbusters with no Bill Murray will equal a flop, a.k.a. a really bad idea. I mentioned this elswhere, but I want for what I said to be seen. Because of that, you may see my comments about this elswhere. That's because I am copying and pasting this anywhere I see Bill Murray and Ghostbusters 3 mentioned.

Jason Sudeikis would be pretty good for the role. Jason bateman too.

Who did he mean when he said "that guy in (500) Days of Summer"? 🙂 But seriously JGL would be cool but I guess that's obvious...

He was referring to Matthew Gray Gubler. I'd love to see him and JGL as Ghostbusters.

Jason Sudekis and/or Bateman, Donald Glover and jesse eisenberg.  That'd be a good cast IMO.

Ah, you beat me to it. I was totally gonna suggest Donald Glover.

The new-blood type talk leaves me cold. I'd still pay to see the old team doddering about, trying to cope. I think that's where a lot of the humour would come from.

I want some Michael Cera as a Ghostbuster. Matthew Gray Gubler would be ok too though as new Buster.

this is all wishful thinking for me, but it was a toss up between him & Eisenberg, bc if Bateman was cast i didnt know if that'd be too much of a nod & wink to Arrested Development.  😉

It usually works out well when aging franchises try to recapture their glory and inject some fresh actors in aswell. I smell a turf in the works.

So for roles that literally every young comedic actor in Hollywood would kill to be in, Elwood Blues is going with the androgynous dude from a boring cop show? Dear god.

its ghost busters for the love of pete, dont get so excited for nothing........tossers

Jason Sudekis is absolutely horrible. I can't believe anyone suggested him. He has zero charm, yet always plays the 'charming douche' in movies where Bradley Cooper was unavailable. Donald Glover, Jesse Eisenberg and Nick Swardson. Someone suggested Kat Dennings, and for whatever reason I could totally see her as like, Janine's niece so that pick's fine.

Matthew Gray Gubler is totally fine! He looks more gorgeous than JGL.
